Thank you! I cannot tell you how uplifting it is to see how you guys are hanging in there, and sharing your time and expertise so generously! I continue to be amazed by all that has been found.

To jkmarler, my heart melted when I saw you have gone through some parish registers. A great kindness, bless you.

To lyndal40: Thank you for finding John Alexander Wilson born 27 November 1836! He is a "person of interest," I agree! and we should keep him in mind. As I recall, of the Wilsons already introduced in the forum (by you if I remember right), this family is a new possibility.

The forum seems to be casting the net wide, not limiting our candidates to exact information, and I think that is the best way and the only way we can do. We may later find more about Charles that can link him to a candidate who at this point is not yet clearly Charles.

Of the leads generated, Carl Olaus Olsen baptized 3 Aug 1834 is sticking with me...Other than that I refer to the notes...

Remember the Swedish Charles Wilson who had moved from New York to Massachusetts? I took a look to see if that's the same man as the Civil War draft registration, but I don't think so.

Grabbing what time we can, when we can, little by little a lot has been done.

Here's a whole page of posts I didn't read before I posted just now! Hi Jack!

You wrote: "This is very interesting [(about the James Robinson family]. Did all the children die except for Jennie?"

Yes, according to that census.

You wrote "I wonder what happened to mother and daughter?"

I searched Ancestry.com and Family Search for them and no luck. BUT I limited my search time, as they are likely not related to Charles (although they could have been and our discussion of them was worthwhile).

Here is the likely reason for the English names in the Wilson family from Oddernes. Here in the 1865 Census is Henry (probably the Henrik father to John A Wison). His wife is the correct mother for John A. Henry or Henrik was born in Scotland.

Jack, you wrote, re. the Civil War draft registration: "Could he have married to avoid service?"

We don't know for sure this is "your" Charles and also there is no indication he married to avoid service. Also, the Civil War was fought by men of all ages including married men with children. As a longshoreman in the New York City area, Charles may have been considered an essential worker, as importing supplies became far more important during the Civil War than during peace time - after all Americans had fewer resources and manpower to devote to manufacturing, farming, etc.

"Where did you find that? No Address?"

Found it on the forum - posted by the ever-resourceful lyndal40. What I meant was that in my reading I somehow had not noticed it at first.

Thanks. Out of the much family I had in NY, only one was in the war. I never could figure out why.

Here is a site where you could look for Mary Robinson and marriage for Jennie Robinson. It's the Italian Genealogy group site:

Here is the marriage of Henrik Wilson Kongsgaard, #6 right hand side:

Here is the couple in the 1865 census. Interesting. Henry, James & Ralph each are from Scotland and have settled in spots in fairly close proximity. Maybe they are brothers?
