I've recently started searching for my ancestors, and has found out that some brothers of my great grandfather emigrated from Norway to America in 1907. One of them was called Konrad Johansen Skogmo, and came from Bronnoy in Nordland. I believe his destination was Minnesota. Is there anyone out there who knows anything about him, did he marry, did he get any children etc. etc? Would be fun to see if I had any relatives in America.

| I found some Skogmo's in the US census, but none of them had the first name Konrad or any variation of the name. If you gave me his approximate year of birth it might help find him. For example, there was a John Skogmo in Minnesota in 1910, age 31. I didn't check the census image, but if you think it's in the right age range, I will. |

| His year of birth was 1882, but I'm not sure what date. I believe he was a widower. His wife died in Norway in 1905... That could also be the reason he wanted to go 'to the promised land'.... In the emmigration records his destination was set to Minneapolis. He could've changed his mind, of course.. I appreciate all the help I can get, thank you. |

Hi,
Ellis Island records shows that Konrad Johansen Skogmo (22y) arrived in New York on September 13, 1907, together with one "Peder Johansen Skogmo", 23 years of age. Peder also arrived on June 16, 1903, so this (second) trip in 1907 is probably to bring his brother(?) over...
In 1903, Peders destination was Rockwell city, Iowa, according to the ships manifest.. The purpose of the trip was to visit his uncle "Ole Jacobsen" I think it reads...
Peder was 18y8m in june 1903, so he is born around October 1884.

I found Konrad in the 1910 census, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, age 28, single. He was living with another male Skogmo. I couldn't decipher the first name, but it looks like it begins Je?, age 27 & widowed. Konrad immigrated in 1907, while the other young man did in 1908. The image is poor & many of the notations are unreadable.
I've found Genealogy.com's indexing of the census' to be inconsistant, which is why I always want to look at an image of the original pages. I was going to check for him again in the same area in 1920, but discovered it would be a huge project, as ward 9 in Minneapolis was over 600 pages by 1920 & I didn't get any "hits" in the same geographic area when I checked many of the other Skogmo first names. Most of the first names I got from a search on Skogmo were from family trees for a family which arrived in the US earlier, in the 1860's.

Hi,
both the emigrantlist from Trondheim and the Ellis Island manifest states that the final destination for Konrad and Peder is in Jefferson street, Minneapolis, MN. It looks like Konrad is going to a brother Henry(?) Skogmo, while Peder is going to a friend Johan R????....
The manifest also states that Peder has been in Minneapolis before.

| There is a Henry (1884-1977) in the family trees at Geneaology.com. Father, John Skogmo 1843-1897 married Rikka Marie (Mary) Bye ( 1866-1948) on 1/1/1887 in Minneapolis, MN. The tree has more on Rikka, but nothing further on John. |
