HI

I am looking for any info on the name Turkelson..my Great grandfather from Risor Norway in mid 1800's and settled in Nova Scotia, Canada. His name was changed to Thompson ..

It would also be possible that the name was originally Torkelsen or another similar spelling variation to that. I've seen Torchelsen, Torkildsen, etc.
You should have additional information - what was your great grandfather's given name, middle name? and other names or family members from Norway mentioned in the family lore? When was your great-grandfather born? Do you have a better estimate for when he left Norway?

You've said he was from Risør - that is located in Aust-Agder province (fylke) of Norway.

There are online databases for the 1865 Norwegian census - and a number of databases for emigration from various Norwegian ports. If you can find more identification for your great-grandfather perhaps he can be located in the 1865 census... or leaving from a port in or near Aust-Agder...
