My great great grandmother on my father's side shows her father (Thord Thordsen) and his wife Rangdi Nilsdatter coming from Rye, Svennes, Nord A Norway. I cannot locate this on any Norway map to do any further research. Can anyone tell me where this is located in Norway? The only birth indication of these two is "about 1801". Thanks Jan

Hi Jan,

Svennes is in Nord-Aurdal in Oppland county, Norway. The Rye farm is just north of Fagernes, on the left side of the lake "Strondafjorden".
The parish is called "Uln犘 og Sv熡n犘" in census-1865.

Here is the children of Thord Thordsen and Rangdi Nilsdatter:

Rangdi Nilsdatter Rye left Norway in 1857 as a widow with 6 children.

Thanks to both Jans who replied. That helped considerably. I only had Marit Thorsdatter as a child and didn't know Rangdi immigrated as a widown. I have researched LDS Family Search and found the parents of Rangdi but so far am unable to find the parents of Thor(d) Thordsen. Would researching the farm books of RYE help? Or can I be directed properly? Thanks. Jan(1)
