I received some information that my Great Grandfather Anton Eliasen (birthrate unknown- (married to Louise last name unknown, however she was born in 1856). Anton Eliasen was a ship builder and whaler living in or near Larvik. Louise was employed as a nurse and traveled a lot in her job. She died in 1935.
Their son my Grandfather Marinius Eliasen was born in 1893 also near or in Larvik was a Sailor, Sailmaker and rigger, and he also was a whaler. He moved to the Detroit area in Michigan USA in approximately 1912 and worked in the states as a sail maker and rigger. He was originally married to Anna Knutsen who was born Føyno an island off the coast near Haugesund, Rogaland. Anna Knutsen-Eliasen went back to Føyno when she discovered she had Tuberculosis taking her two children Leo, and Ellen back with her.where she soon died from her illness. I was told she was burried on an island a stone’s throw from Føyno with a name sounding like “Catan-Kattan” my father was only four at the time so his memories are a bit lacking.
I was also told that the island’s there “Føyno” used to be a coal mining area and that all his family on his mothers side came from there. I have been unable to find any information on maps, location or history.

After her death, Marinius wrote to have his children returned to America where he was living. Anna’s sister Magda Knutsen (born 1901 died USA 1999) returned the children to Marinius and soon after married Marinius Eliasen they had 4 more children.
Any information on maps or history of the areas that they departed from or of my family members themselves would be appreciated as I can virtuatly find nothing on the Føyno -Knutsen side of the family history.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks very much,
Donna Eliasen
