I am a great-grandson of ALFRED JOHANNES LARSEN(1872-1924) who was the son of ASKILD LARSEN HERLAND. The family emigrated from Bergen to Chicago in two waves. In March 1881, Askild emigrated with his sons LARS SEVERIN(b. 1865) and BERNARD (b. 1868). In September 1881, Askild's wife CHARLOTTE made the trip with daughters SINE (b. 1866)and OVIDIA (b. 1870) and sons Alfred (by ggrandfather) and ANTON SEVERIN (b. 1874). Ovidia and Anton died before they married and have no descendants, but Lars, Bernard, and Sine probably did have children, I just can't find them.
Their last name in Norway is usually listed as HERLAND, the name of the farm Askild was born on, but all of them used the last name LARSEN in the United States. Are you related to them? |

Keep asking the same questions, you might eventually get a different answer. Ran another nationwide check for BERNHARD LARSEN, and found a four-point-match in the 1910 census. Bernhard J. Larsen, age 41, immigrated in 1881, born in Norway. AND he was living in Chicago, where my great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather lived.
He was married (Hannah) and had two kids: Norman (age 14) and Florence (age 11). This HAS to be the guy. But by the 1920 census, all four drop off the face of the earth. If you know these Larsens, please respond. |

In the Illinois pre 1916 death index LARSEN, BERNHARD J died 10/29/1911 CHICAGO Age - 43 COOK county. Looks like a pretty good match for your Bernhad so you probably need to look for Hannah in the 1920 census (hopefully she hasn't remarried or died) Click Here Carla |

That's the guy. He was born early in the year, so that would explain him aging two years in the span of one.
What a great website you directed me to! I'm in your debt!
The only bad news is yet ANOTHER male ancestor of mine died really, really young. Should I prepare a will?
(Also, should anyone else be looking for information on Bernhard, familysearch.org says he married HANNAH MARIA OLSEN on 26 SEP 1894 in Cook County, Illnois.) |

I also found LARS SEVERIN LARSEN's death date: 15 May 1932 (Chicago, Illinois). He was 67. But I can't find him in any of the census reports... |

I don't think its the right Lars Severin Larsen. On another note, I found a marriage record for a SINE LARSEN marrying a PAUL NEILSEN on November 3, 1895. But following up in the census has been problematic thus far. |
