I am trying to find out how to get a birth certificate for my father who was born in Norway. He was raised on the Farsund farm in Fjorde Norway. My father was born 10/28/1903. I believe his father was Ludvig Tollevsen Farsund. Also is there any way to find out mailing addresses or email addresses of people in Norway. I was in contact with my uncles grand daughter, Linda Evebo until about 2 years ago but havent heard from her in a long time. I think I do have relatives still in Norway but it is difficult to communicate cause they dont speak English ( except Linda Evebo does) Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Linda
Thank you very much for the info. I will try writing to those addresses and see if this is the Linda that I am looking for. Also thanks for the links, I had found my grand father on that web site ( what a great site ! ) but not my great grand father.
Any suggestions on getting a birth certificate for my father. No one in my family ever remembers seeing one for my dad, and he has passed on. I just thought that would confirm any information that I have and might give more info.
Is there any Norwegian to English translators on the internet. I thought I found one, but when I put in the words it didnt work. Thank you so much for all your help ! Linda
I do not know of any site translating norwegian into english. And even if there was one you'd probably hvae problems as the norwegian you have from the 1800s are not equal to the norwegian we write today.
I think my best advice is for you to go to Digitalarkivet's debate forum (link below) and search for "translate" and see if you can find the words you're looking for that way. And if there still are words you're looking for, click "Enter new topic" and ask there.
Yo'll probably find the answere to your question at the same place - and if not: ask. There's plenty of good helpers at Digitalerkivet...
Buying a good Norwegian-English dictionary is also a good idea.
Are you sure that Norway or the church issued birth certificates during that time period? Checking the church records for a record of birth/baptism might be the best that exists. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html
