I am pretty new to this- I need some help

*ship/date (I've searched and searched...)
*why wife died in Aust-Agder, if they immigrated to US
*any additional stuff

Here's some of what I know
(from familysearch.org)
They're from Krodsherad, Buskerud, Sigdal Parish
BJORN TRULSEN RUND (1854-1931)
married HANNAH STORMO in 1880, in Norway
They immigrated to South Dakota. Had my great grandpa, Clarence Rund.

Let me know if you need additional information- I have it

Hi, Bjørn Trulsen Ruud left Oslo on May 2nd, 1879: click here

He is 24 years old, from Krødsherred and was headed for Clinton, Wisconsin.

Krødsherad in Buskerud county was until 1959 under Sigdals parish in Buskerud.
census 1865

From LDS: Birth:16 APR 1854, Christening: 07 MAY 1854, Krødsherad, Buskerud, Norway

I believe Bjørn and Hannah got married in Dakota. Here is Hannah Storma (18) in the 1880-census for Hamlin county in Dakota: click here

Furter down on that page you'll find 4 people called Rund, which could be of Bjørns family. There is one called "Bent" there, could that be Bjørn?
I could not locate Bjørn in the 1880-census fro Wisconsin.

Jan Peter

Hi

Bjørn went by the ship S/S Hero (2), travelling Christiania (Norway) - Christiansand (Norway) - Hull (England).

From Hull probably by train to Liverpool and from there by [most likely] one of these ships.

Found this is the New York Immigration database:

S/S Republic, from Liverpool & Queenstown, arriving New York Harbor on May 19, 1879:

Anna Rund, 20, servant, steerage, from Denmark
Ingri Rund, 20, servant, steerage, from Denmark

In another place on the list:
K. T. Rund, 24, farmer, steerage, from Denmark (K could be B)
Ivah (this just was unreadable) Rund, 19, farmer, steerage, from Denmark.

The mixing up of countries of origin between Norway, Sweden & Denmark is very common and also mistakes in ages, etc. is common.

Thanks for all the information guys, you all got back to me sooner than expected. Are the ship passenger lists for Bjorn & his siblings online where I can access them? It really isn't a big deal, but I was just curious....

Again, thanks for your help

Hi Megan,

All my info in my postings contain links, just click on them and it will take you to the passenger lists for the ship S/S Hero (2),leaving Oslo.

They changed ship in England, and crossed the Atlantic with the S/S Republic. Jo Anne can prob. tell you where she found the New York Immigration database....

The list is available online through a paid subscription to Ancestry.com or the microfilm can be rented at a local family history center. It is always nice to get a copy of the actual record.
