To the Norway-Heritage:
This is the first time I am trying this forum.
I am searching for the whereabouts of my granduncle, Georg Nilsen, born 18. July 1868 in Kristiania (Oslo).

The 2nd August 1888 he left for New York on board the Danish immigration ship Thingvalla. On the 14th of August, the ship collided with its sister ship, the Geisir. Geisir sank with the loss of many lives. As far as I know, nobody on board the Thingvalla lost their lives. The passengers disembarked in Halifax two days later. From there, I have no traces of Georg.

Is there any one who might tell me what happened to him?
I will be visiting New York in September 2005. If Georg has some living relatives today, I would be delighted to get in touch with them.

Best wishes from
Knut Kvalvågnæs
