My father sailed on the S/S Bergensfjord from Bergen on 10/11/16 arriving in New York 10/22/16. I have not found a record of him through Ellis Island or a passenger list for that sailing. Is it available. I would appreciate any leads. Thanks. |

His name was Ernest (Ernst) Gunnar August Nelson (Nilsson). He was from Sweden and took the train to Bergen to embark for America. I was told a couple years ago that the passenger list for his ship had not been posted to the web and thought I'd try again to find the record. Thanks for your post. If you have any other leads I would welcome them.

This passenger list is included on the Ellis Island website (1892-1924) for the Port of New York passenger records.

There is an Ernst Nilsson, age 17 from Asheda, Sweden listed for the Bergensfjord in 1916. Cannot do a direct link. |

Ernst Aug. Gunnar Nilsson b. March 1 1898 in Åsheda, Kronoborg, Sweden left from Oslo not Bergen. The records of Ellis Island are wrong. See records of Digitalarkivet, Norway He was traveling together with Erik Johansson from the same place. |

On your database, Trond, for Norwegian departures, it lists the following port route for the Bergensfjord in 1916:
Kristiania - Kristiansand - Stavanger - Bergen
It appears the Ellis Island database only listed Bergen as the port of departure, not all the other ports it stopped at to pick up passengers. Something I never thought about before. |

In looking at the individual record again, it does separate passengers out by port, Ernst is listed from Kristiansand. |

Thanks, I really appreciate everyones help. You have found my father on the records. The birthdate and birthplace are correct. The traveling companions appear familiar as he was not traveling alone.
Again, THANKS!
