I am looking for Sagen from Norway and have some information but it is written in norwegian. I have translation program but it doesn't translate it so I can understand it. I'd like to know what area this is in Norway and if the places still exist. Also any emmigration information would be helpful.
Plass under Nestegard. I. Sagi (Sagen) — Sagbakken — Mettestugu
Steingrimsplassen (under norde Bry) f 1798 d 29/2 1860, g 2. g 1860 m (I) Gunhild Pålsdtr. Smed. Asle hadde ingen born med 1. kona.
Gunhild Pålsdtr.`s 3 born føre ekteskapet: (II) 1. Pål Kristenson f 16/2 1848 d 1929 (i Am.), far: ungk. Kristen Jensson Rudsviken, Nes; Pål til Am. i 1870. (III) 2. Ola Sjugurdson f3/3 1850 d 1887, far: gift mann Sjugurd Asleson Villandsmoen el. Glytthus. Ola til Am.. 1872. 3. Andres Steinson f 25/4 1856, far enkjemann Stein Andresson Randen (i Urundlien) f 1812.
Here are the record of them leaving Kristiania/Oslo on Oct. 8 1881 on the S/S Thingvalla. Gunhilds son Pål, paid the ticket from America. |

Nancy - What is the 'narrative' information from?
I don't know WHO Gunhild Pålsdtr is OR if she is important to your family research... but I THINK it says she had three children before she she had two children with Asle - and it lists them under the heading "Gunhild Pålsdtr.`s 3 born føre ekteskapet:" It also gives minor information about each of the babies fathers, etc. One was a bachelor named Kristen Jensson of Rudsviken in Nes, the next was a married man named Sjugurd, and the third was a widower named Stein Andresson of Randen (in Urundlien).
Sagen would appear to have been a 'plass' under the probably older and larger farm known as Nestegard. I'd trust Harald as to the location within Buskerud, Norway.
Faced with such a narrative for myself - I would turn to my trusty Norwegian-English dictionary and go at it slowly and carefully - one word at a time. The narrative also seems to mention the 1865 census information which Harald gave you a link to (in the database form) and the emigration for when she emigrated from Norway in 1881 and Trond gave you a link to that information in database form.

You are all so great. Thank you all very much. Gunhild Palsdatter was our great grandmother. The information I have in Norwegian was passed on from a cousin in Minnesota and looks like it was copied from a book of some kind, but I have no clue as to a name of it...........
I would really like to find more on our great grandfather, Asle Andreessn Øvrestolen -- Sagen f 1804 d føre 1865
Is there anyway to find out where and how he lived and how and where he died???????? Thank you all again. Nancy

Your cousin has probably copied pages from Hol bygdebok I-IV (farm history book) "Folk og fortid i Hol" by Lars and Sigurd Reinton, issued 1999.
Asle Andresen from Øvrestølen was born on the small farm Øvrestølen 1804. He died before 1865. He 1836 married to Gunhild Steingrimsdatter from Steingrimsplassen, b. 1798. She died Feb 29 1860. He then (1860) married to Gunhild Pålsdatter Slåttun (1825-1900), daughter of the "Dannebrogmann" (= honoured by the king) Pål Slåttun.
Asle built the place Sagen when he married the second time, 1860. It looks like he before that time was at the place Nestegård-Bråset to the west. The house on Sagen was moved to there from north Villand. It was called the Mette-stugu (Mette's house) after the woman Mette Hjerman Villand. Later on the house was moved to Skarset.
Asle was grandson of Gjermund Andresen Ådølshaugen (read about him at pages about the farm Øvrestølen), Asle was called Gjermund-Asle. He was a blacksmith. He had no children with his first wife.
Asle's father Andres Gjermundsen (39) in 1801 census: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f10619&gardpostnr=129&personpostnr=2489&merk=2489#ovre

Thank you very much. You said,"Asle was grandson of Gjermund Andresen Ådølshaugen (read about him at pages about the farm Øvrestølen), " I am not to good at getting into these norwegian sites but will try to find that farm. Is there sites that I can read in english?

I was only translating the Norwegian text you had, and trying to explain:
Asle var soneson til Gjermund Andresson Ådølshaugen (sjå Øvrestølen), = Asle was grandson of Gjermund Andresen Ådølshaugen (see Øvrestølen), = Asle was grandson of Gjermund Andresen Ådølshaugen (read about him at pages about the farm Øvrestølen)
The line is a referance to other pages in the bygdebok.
