I'm doing family research, of course...and I've just now crossed over the seas (I believe) with a family member...two actually. However I'm pretty dense when it comes to reading this stuff, as I know Norway is different than America when it comes to listing stuff.

I was wondering if someone could help put this information into lamens(sp) terms?

18/4 1872 John Jenss. Alrek g(=married) born 1828 left Vik for Amerika
with wife Marie Pederd. Alrek b. 1829
and children:
Madsi Johnd. Alrek b. 1848 (b. 10/12 1847 at Tennefoss)
Ingerid Johns. Alrek b. 1853 (b. 22/9 1852 at Tennefoss)
Jens Johns. Alrek b. 1855 (b. 17/12 1854)
Peder Johns. Alrek b. 1860 (b. 13/4 )
Johan Johns. Alrek b.1863 (b. 23/4)
Niels Johns. Alrek b. 1866 (b. 12/12 1865)
Gjertrud Johnd. Alrek b. 1869 (b. 28/10)
(Source: Fylkesarkivet, migration Sogn og Fjordane County)

There were also:
Martha Johnd. b. 27/4 1850 at Tennefoss
Martha Johnd. b. 30/7 1857 at Alrek

They were married 26/12 1849 John Jenss. Tennefoss Vik Ungkarl(=bachelor) b. 1827 Vik Tennefoss <sic.> 1(=grooms first marriage) Marie Pederd. Tennefoss Vik <sic.> b. 1828 1(=bride's first marriage)
But the census of 1865 tells us that Marie was born in Lavig parish and John was born in Sogdal

I'm pretty certain Marie's birth is here: 5/12 1828 F(=date of birth) k(=female) Marie Pederd. e(=legitimate) Peder Jenss. Kirkebø pladsmand.(=cotter) Marthe Nielsd

If the age in tehe census is correct, this could be her husbands' birth: 25/11 1827 F(=date of birth) m(=male) Jon Jenss. e Jens Johanness. Skjeldestad hmdfolk(=cotters) Margreta Jond.
If so, his parents' marriage is here: 12/12 1816 Jens Johanness. Thorstad ungkar, Sogndal 1 Margreta Jond. Frætland Sogndal 1

Unfortunately there are other men named Jens having sons named Jon or Johannes in Sogndal within few years so we can't be quite sure who are John's parents:

22/9 1826 F m Johannes Jenss. e Jens Johanness. b. 1798 Kvåle, gaardmand (=farmer) (married 2/5 1825) Synneva Ånundd. b. 1787 Selseng
18/1 1828 F m Jon Jenss. e Jens Mikkels. b 1796 Slinde Ingrid Perd. b. 1800 (married 8/4 1822) Slinde 1 Ingrid Perd. Sogndal
8/1 1828 F m Johannes Jenss. e Jens Johanness. b. 1795 Eggum inderst (=tennant) (married 28/10 1825 ) Anna Perd. b. 1800 Bjelle
