My great-grandmother, Agnete Pedersdatter Verhaug, lived at
Decorah, Iowa. Her brother, Severt, ( Feb. 5, 1836-Feb. 7, 1930), immigrated from Torpa, Norway in 1855 and lived just across the State line, at Fountain, Minnesota. His wife, Anna Johnson, was Swedish. I'd like any information about his descendants.
Agnete's sister Berte, born 1830, immigrated in 1855 to Fountain, Minnesota. She married a certain Hans Peterson, and had sons Peter and Endres.
Agnete's brother, also Hans, born 1828 at Torpa, immigrated in 1850 to Wiota, Wisconsin.
Agnete's half brother Andrew, born 1853 at Torpa, immigrated in 1867 to Fountain(?), Minnesota, later migrated to Silverton, Oregon. His wife, Gertie, died in 1919. His daughter, Clara, married (another) Andrew Peterson, who died March 12, 1935, in Benton County, Oregon. Two of his children were Alvin, (born ca. 1928) and Andrew C. (born ca. 1929.)
I'd like information about any of the above.

This post sounds like you are only looking for descendents in the US. Do you have information on the family in Norway? I may have information back 2-3 generations in Norway.

By the way, Vaerhaug would be a better spelling. Actually it should have the a and e connected, but I don't know if I can get it to happen. Værhaug under Skinnerlia

I have some information about the Vaerhaugs in Norway. Haven't typed it that way, because I can't run the a and e together on this American keyboard. I'd like to know what you have about the Vaerhaugs in Norway.

Try this Rootswebs message board for Vest-Agder, Norway at

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/localities.scan-balt.norway.counties.vestagder/269.1.1

There is a list there of how to get those special Norwegian characters - should work on most keyboards - in fact it tells you how to install the Norwegian Keyboard if you are a Windows user - I haven't tried that, but the other options work really well.

Jerry,

This is a family I have been looking for for over ten years. Hans Peterson, Berte's husband, is actually Hans Pedersen Smedhaugen from the Grotaasen farm in Vest-Torpa, Nordre Land, Oppland, Norway. My great-great grandmother Marit was his sister. She also emigrated to Minnesota. Hans Peterson was a twin, and his twin brother Peder also emigrated to America and settled in Minnesota.

Vaerhaug is actually a "bruk" or sub-farm of Skinnerlien or Skinnerlia, also in Torpa. I have quite a bit of information about Skinnerlia, as Hans' mother Siri was from Skinnerlia and her daughter Marit ended up buying Skinnerlia from Siri's childless brother Halvor. Do you know anything about a Haldor or Halvor Pedersen from Vaerhaug? I always thought that he was Berte's brother. He married Hans' sister Ingeborg Smedhaugen.

I am so happy to hear that they settled in Fountain!!! Do you know anything about Berte's children, Peter and Endres? Do you have any connections with any living descendants?

Daughter Lena was not married to Ole A. Erickson. That is a red herring (after following that line out for 3 years - sigh). The most likely option at this point is a marriage to Levi A. Watson also of Fountain. Levi and his wife Ellen show up in the 1920 census in Stanislaus, California.

Found a descendant of Lena (Helen) Watson. Helen IS the daughter of Hans and Berthe Peterson from Nordre Land, Oppland, Norway. Helen married Levi A. Watson and moved to Modesto, California sometime between 1905 and 1909 with their only daughter Laura. Helen's (Lena's) great-granddaughter has photos of the entire Peterson family in her collection.
