I have notes written by a Norwegian emigrant who returned to Norway in 1888. Reported departure from New York was June 9th, (6 pm), arrival in Christiansand June 22nd (12.30). Presumably he arrived in Christiania the following day. It looks like this was a direct route, so my guess is Thingvalla Line. SS Hekla II had arrived in NY on June 1st, SS Geiser on June 8th. How long did the ships generally stay in NY before returning to Norway? Which ship can he have been on?

The S/S Hekla departed from New York on June 9, and arrived at Christiania on June 22.
