Hello: I am searching for information on my family that emmigrated from Sweden, and am unsure if they went through Norway or not... The name is Aron (aaron) Krans - He emigrated from Sweden in 1881 Born in 1837. My grandfather tells me he emigrated from a town called Hangsdahl...I don't know of a town in Sweden with that name, so I thought maybe it was the port he came over from. He died in 1915. He had a son named Gustaf and a daughter named Hulda....

I have all the records on the other side of my family, but am really looking for these folks. Thank you for nay help

Hi,
the emigrant lists from Oslo have several records of people named Krans, and many of them look to be from the Dalsland area of Sweden.

As you see, Gothenburg or Oslo would be a natural port of emigration for people from that area.
Dalsland is a common name for the swedish municipalities Bengtsfors, Dals-Ed, Färgelanda, Mellerud and Åmål, and is the white area on the map to the left.
Maybe your Aron was from that area? The area belongs to Västra Götaland county.

A query at the swedish Anbrytarforum could help. Hit the button at the bottom of the page to create your topic.

I purchased an antique dresser a few weeks ago which had a leather shipping tag on it which stated that it was shipped to an A. G. Krans in Hutchinson, MN. I searched death records and came across an Aron Krans that was born in 1837 and died in Mcleod County in 1915. Can you tell me if your Aron Krans had a middle name which started with a "G" ? I'm thinking since he had a son named Gustaf, this could possibly be his middle name? I am trying to find out about the person who owned this dresser. We have restored it and it has a beautiful spot in our home. Please email me back with any information. Thanks! Shellie from Hutchinson, MN

Hi,

In searching for my Swedish family I found the following extremely useful:
www.bridgetosweden.com

There are also some Krans from Sweden in Ancestry.com immigrant database (Gottf Krans, A Krans, etc.). Some emigrated in 1881.
