Hi,

I believe that my Great Great Grandparents were on this sailing to New Zealand. Their names were Anton and Helen Amundsen (nee Hansen).
Also they had a baby girl on-board ship in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. They named her Emily Antonia Atlantica Amundsen. She was my Great Grandmother.
Does anybody know anything more about them, please? I believe that they were both born in Christiania and that they may have been living in Naess, Kraagstad, just before they left for New Zealand on the Hovding in 1873.
I would love to find out if there are any living relatives left in Norway.
If anyone can please help, I would be so grateful.

Karen is listed as born in 1845 and her father is Hans HOLMSEN

Hi,

Thank you so much for all your help. You guys are amazing! Such a lot of information and so quickly!
I wonder if you may be able to help me again. I have been searching for Karen and Antons parents on the 1865 census and have not been able to find them or Anton and Karen either. I dont know if I am doing something wrong or not.
If someone could please help me to find out more information, I would be so grateful, their details are as follows:

Anton Emil Amundsen - Born 16 May 1850 in Naes, Akershus
Christened 16 June 1850 in Ullensaker, Akershus
His father: Amund Jensen
His mother: Kari Amundsdatter

Married Karen Helene Hansdatter on 6 February 1873 in Trefoldighet Menighet, Akershus

Karen Helene Amundsen born 1845
Christened 13 July 1845 in Krakstad, Akershus
Karen's father: Hans Holmsen
Karen's mother: Elen Johannesdatter

I would especially like to find out Karen and Anton's brothers and sisters names and the name of their farm if they had one. Also dates of birth and death for the parents.

Please if these names ring a bell or if anyone can help me to find out more about the family further back it would be so wonderful.

Thank you so very much for all your help,

Astrid Cayless

Hi Astrid, thanks for asking about Emily because I have been looking for info on her as well. She would have been my Great Grand Mother as well. The only info I have is her marrying Eugene in Napier.

Quite some time has passed since you asked about Anton and Karen Helene, scanned records are now available, here as #10 you will find their marriage record.
Anton Emil was actually christened Anton, see #102 his parents Amund Jenssen and Kari Amundsdatter were living at the farm Schjelmerud-ejet.
Antons brother Ingebreth was baptized at home on Jan 12 1847 and this was confirmed in church May 16, see #72.
Antons sister Ingeborg was also baptized at home, see #129. She died only 4 weeks old, see #71.
You will find the brother Gudbrand as #215.

Karen Helene was an "uægte" child, ie her parents were not married, the baptism record is #44, her mother Elen came from Sørum (so did all the godfathers) and the father Hans Holmsen came from Jahr.
