Try www.freetranslation.com I use this often to translate things. Simply type in your text and select the foreign language to english and it will do it for you. There are limits on the amount of text that is translated at one time, so you may need to do it it pieces to get the whole document translated. Good luck

Freetranslation.com only does English to Norwegian. I have not found any free translation website that does Norwegian to English. Even if there was one available, it would translate modern Norwegian, not the old 19th century Dano-Norwegian.

Here is a good dictionary for translating old records but it mostly relates to family history records:

try http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definition/Norwegian-english/
or
http://www.tritrans.net/
or
http://www.geocities.com/~valdressamband/genterm1.html
also. You may still have trouble fitting some words into the context of a sentence or may not be able to find all words. Sometimes you need to look for the root (remember that Norwegian adds endings just like we do, i.e., the difference between bake and baked). Also they seem to keep changing the way they spell things - i and e become interchangeable, aa, å, o, etc. Depends on who is writing it and the time frame, I think. Hand writing is always the worst to translate. Anyway these are my favorite 4 websites (including the one previously posted here) to use for Norwegian translations. AND when you become stymied trying posting the letter here or on rootsweb in hopes that some kind person will help you. Good Luck.
