My greatgrandparent immigrated from Norway and I can't find him in any register in Amerika. His birthname was Kristian Jensen, but i have reasons to think that he changed his last name to Ormbostad. His day of birth is 1870 and death could bee 1914.
One of his brothers name is Hans Jensen (birth 1872), and since they were so close in age, maby they went together.
If someone could help it would bee nice.

Hi Frode:
I could not find anybody with the last name Ormbostad in the online census records (1880-1930). I also ran a search on whitepages.com, our national telephone directory, that did not turn up anybody with that name in the entire country.
It seems unusual to me that he would change his name to Ormbostad in America because that would be a very unusual name here. It seems more likely that he changed it to Christian Jensen or Johnson or similar. Unfortunately, that is too common of a name to find your relative without more information. Do you have any idea when he came to America? The 1900 census includes the year of emigration. Did he come with a wife or children? Do you have any idea what state he went to? |

Tried other possible adaptations of that name... There is a "Christian Bostad" who lists himself as 38 yrs old in the 1910 US census of Dane County, Wisconsin. He is married to a Wisconsin born woman named Lizzie and he lists his year of immigration as 1892 or 1893. The same man lists his birth as January or June of 1872 in the 1900 US census of Dane County, Wisconsin. His first son he has named William.
There is a man called "Henry Orm" in Chicago, Illinois in the 1900 US census. Lists himself as born November of 1871 in Norway and says that he immigrated about 1882. (No Kristian or Christian Orm)
Did either brother have an specific occupation that might help identify them? There are a fair number of Christian and Hans Jensen/Jenson entries in the US census indexes and several of the general age category that you seek. Not enough information to be able to link any of them to the outline you have provided.

Hi skbristol:
Thank you for offering your time on this subject.
I found him in the archives from EllisIsland, unfortunately they have misspelled one letter in his last name. They say: Kristian Ormbastad, but it stands in the log Ormbostad. Wich name he use in Amerika is for me unknown. He left his girlfriend and newborn child in Norway and the year of arrival was 1901. It looks like he went to Everet Wash.
When someone in Norway did grown old they told us about our new great-grandparent. If he have any relatives left in your country and what did he do for a living we are curios to know.

Frode,
I found a listing in the 1910 census who might be your relative:
1910 U.S. Census: Seattle, King Co., Washington Chris Jensen, employee, age 40, born in Norway, both parents born in Norway, emigrated in 1901, alien resident, speaks English, fisherman
He's working for a German by the name of Fred Prussi along with 10 other men (mostly Swedish and Norwegian) in an area called Salmon Bay.
Everett is located in Snohomish County, about 25 miles north of Seattle and is also on the water. I couldn't find anybody in Snohomish County who fit your description. However, it seems very reasonable to me that your Kristian Jensen might have moved back and forth between Seattle and Everett.
Coincidentally, I also live in Washington state, about 2 hours from Seattle.
