Searching for relatives.....my father, Arthur, was born here in Chicago in 1915. His father, John, was married to Inga Andreasson who passed away in 1921 from tuberculosis. John had a brother, maybe 2? Not sure what year my grandfather arrived, but I'm guessing 1908-1912. I believe they were from Stavanger or a small town nearby. |

Hi, the small township Sirevåg is located in Hå muncipality, Rogaland, so your guess about the Stavanger location is probably right.
Do you have any estimate of birthyear of John?

Hello there! Thanks for the reply......John would have been born in 1880 or 1881. He was buried here in Chicago on my 9th birthday in September of 1965 at age 83. We believe he arrived in the states in 1904 or 1905. His middle initial was A which I think was for Arthur, which is my father's name. Besides having a brother, John may have had a sister who married a Christensen who my father always referred to as Uncle Chris. My father, Arthur, is 90 years old and unfortunately not able to remember much. I do have a "cousin" in Oslo, Turid Bergen-Nilsen (married name) but we seem to have lost contact after she moved back to Oslo after living here in the states for quite a few years. Thanks for your help! Debbie |

Perhaps Johannes Andersen Sirevåg, carpenter, born 1882 1904 emigrant
Perhaps this one (different age) in 1900 census |

There is a reconstructed emigrant list from Stavanger port. There is a Karoline Andreasdatter Haver, born 13 May 1877, daughter of Andreas Johannesen Haver, heading for Brooklyn: emigrant list
The source of this information is the bygdebok (farm history book) of OGNA, HAA page 32.
In the census there is information that John Andersen Haver, b. 1880, emigrated in 1901. And that Johannes Haver in 1915 was engaged to Louise Thorsen. |

Thank you so much! That is him! 1882. Now where are the rest of my relatives? I wish I knew the names of his father and brothers.
My father had a brother who died within a year or two of his birth and he has no other siblings. I am also the only child, and female, so the end of the line. Thank you again! Debbie |

Hi there diverdeb! I tried to write you a personal email but because I hadn't posted anything it wouldn't let me send it to you. I really hope that you are still on here and/or get emails.
Long story short, I was on the phone with my mother talking about how she and her mother used to live with Art and Vi in Chicago in the 50's. So, out of curiosity I started googling and lo and behold this post came up. There is no doubt that we're talking about the same people. My mother is your second cousin. Her mother, Berglijot, was the daughter of Johan Sirevåg, Johannes (John) Sirevoogs brother and grew up in Sirevåg Norway on a farm called Skoran.
Hope this gets to you and that we can get in touch. My mother probably knows about many things you may find interesting, we moved back to Norway over 20 years ago and she lives quite near Sirevåg. All the best! Victoria Gjerpen |
