Trying to find history on my fathers said of the family. Surname is Vangsness. Got all my mother's info since they are a tad bit better documented, now just trying to tie it together.

Hi,
do you have any other information?

Vangsnęs is a farmname in Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane county, so that could be his origin.

If that's the case, he could have emigrated from Bergen.

There are 146 people named "Vangsness" among the Emigrants fra Bergen 1874-1930.
They are listed under a lot of different spelling varations, most of them spelled their lastname "Vangsnęs"

Jan Peter
