Hello, I am fairly new at genealogy and am trying to find pedigree information on my G-G-G-G-Grandparents Niels Arnesen and Anne Carlsdatter. They had a son, Carl Nilsen Bergen (christened 08 Jul 1798 in Solum, Telemark) who married Anna Marie Hansdatter Tveitan on 29 Dec 1817, in Solum, Telemark. I have traced this information through Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, and a short family history that my G-Grandfather Carl Hansen Siljan wrote in 1930. He did not have any information further than his paternal grandparents (Carl Nilsen Bergen and Anna Marie Hansdatter Tveitan) and maternal grandparents (Lars Jacobsen Siljan and Aslaug Kirstine Haukelia.) Carl Nilsen Bergen owned two farms---Langland in Helgen and Tveitan in Maelum. Carl Hansen Siljan wrote about a Holla Book (the history of Holla Holden and its development by S. Ytterboe, M.A.) which states that the Siljan family is the most numerous family in the district of Tele (Bratsberg County) and can be traced back to 1662. I am hoping someone can help me find pedigree information on Carl Nilsen Bergen and Niels Arnesen. Thank you. |

Niels Arnesen and his family are living on the Omdahl farm in Mælum parish of the Solum clerical district, Telemark at the time of the 1801 Norwegian census - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f10818&gardpostnr=41&sokefelt=skjul
Parish records for Solum area of Telemark survive for years as early as 1701 and are easily accessible for research on LDS microfilm. There is also a published bygdebok (usually containing local history, farm history and genealogy of resident families) for Solum - "Solum Bygds Historie", 2 volumes by Toralf Gjone (available for use on LDS microfiche set).
You mention a book about Holla district. You might actually be looking for "Holla" by Simon Ytterboe (available for use on LDS microfiche set).
Someone has submitted a pedigree report about that family to the Pedigree Resource File collection of the LDS website - Pedigree Resource File - Compact Disc #6. The surety of the research cannot be determined from finding those names in the PRF index online.
I'm sure you are already studying the various helpful articles that you've encountered at this website, but here's a link to more good Information to learn about doing good Norwegian ancestor research - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/articles.html

Thank you so much! I guess I did not dig far enough on the LDS site (uff-da.) This just goes to show how much I still have to learn about genealogy research. Have a GREAT DAY! |

Hi Lorrane, you should start a new thread for your search, and not under this thread "Ancestors from Omdalsstrand, Solum, Telemark"
Maybe Ole Garness was from Verdal..., but please create a new thread first...
