The info on Peder Bertilson Berge´s tombstone born Mai 12. is incorrect (see Einars posting on page 1) Peder was born on Lodengaard Mai 9.
Church book for Gausdal 1758-1809 page 313, 1808;
Døbt Fød 9 Maji bap. 19 juni Bertil Olsen and Ragnild Olsdatter Lodengaards B (Child) Peder

- a correction is needed, the last record on that page is for a baptism "19 do" - i.e. juni (June 19), the parents were "Berthel Olsen og Ragnild Andersdatter Lodengaard", their son Peder being baptize was "Fød 9de Maji" (born May 9).

Thanks, I'd like to stick with one date and it helps to have it confirmed again.
When you say "Church Book" is that because of the baptism? Does it say the name of the church? Is it correct to say the birth place was: ØSTRE GAUSDAL, OPLAND, NORWAY? |

This is what I read from the tombstone: HER HVILET STØVET AF MAREN JOHANE JACOBSEN FØD 20NDE NOVEMBER 1812 I DANGERS SOGN NORGE DØDE 10NDE DECEMBER 1911 I EN ALDER AF 99 AAR 20 DAGE FRED MED HENDES STØV
HERE RESTS THE DUST OF MAREN JOHANE JACOBSEN BORN 20TH NOVEMBER 1812 IN DANGERS SOGN NORWAY DIED 10 TH DECEMBER 1911 IN AN AGE OF 99 YEARS 20 DAYS PEACE WITH HER DUST
Problem is, no parish in Norway to my knowledge is named Danger, and also her last name when born would not have been Jacobsen, she must have taken that from her husbands last name. What was his name?

I know nothing at all about her husband. Nothing in stories nor tombstones. I can't seem to get Maren or Helena off the Mormon site either.

When my aunt wrote in her essay "Lena (Helena) Jacobson...was born October 14, 1842. I am not sure where she was born but I remember her telling of going fishing with her father on the Fjord. I also remember her talking about Trondhjem. She came to America and Wisconsin when she was 21 years old. Other members of her family also came"
I can see that her tombstone: Sogn and her essay: Trondhjem are not in the same area. Do you think that she could have been hearing about the farm: Tønjum which is in Sogn? From the story I understand that Helena emigrated with her family about 1865. I see from census data that her mother (Maren Johane Jacobsen) was widowed already in 1880. There are many Maren Johane that come up in a search but not married to a Jacobsen or born during the 5 years around 1842. |

Sorry for a "missing" translation, it says she was "fød i Dangers sogn" i.e. born in Dangers parish. (not to be understood as an abreviation of the county Sogn og Fjordane).

A possibility. Dangers sogn (Danger sub parish) Sogn was a sub parish in a "prestegjeld" parish/municipality.
Eidanger was established as a municipality 1838, earlier mentioned as Eidanger Sogn and (several variations) Eidanger sogn in Eidanger parish.
Local Eidanger was pronunciated Danger, Dangers sogn.
