Because all of the 1875 census is not posted on the Digitalarkivet, I am not able to find Christence Marie Meyer in it and am not able to find her marriage records. The following is what I do know about her: Born: 1851-01-02 in Bergen Father: Christian Magnus Meyer, born in Bergen 1817-06, dead 1873-11-16 in Laxevaag, Askoen.
Mother: Cecilie Fredrikke Ruus-Olsen, born in Bergen 1823-01-27, dead 1875-04-19. Married 1842-08-16 in Bergen Korskirke.
Brothers and sisters:
Jane Petrine, born 1842-03-19, Gustave Christine, born 1845-11-02, Henrik Mörk, born 1847-10-27, Christian Magnus, born 1849-09-13, Lucie Margrethe, born 1853-08-30, Anna Elisabeth, born 1855-09-20, Anna Magdalena, born 1858-04-23, Christian Magnus, born 1860-05-06 and Thora Oktilia, born 1862-10-12.
She married a Danish sea captian, Niels Nielsen, and eventually moved to Copenhagen before moving to the USA. She and Niels both died in Florida.
Would appreciate any information or ideas where i could find information about her and her marriage.
Thank you Tonia

When did they immigrate to the U.S.? Have you found them in any census'? The 1900-1930 census ask how many years married, you could narrow down the marriage date from that info. Generally, a bride is married in her home parish, some of the Bergen parish records are online and the rest would be available for rent from a local Family History Center. |

Jo Anne Thank you for reminding me of that. They came to the US in 1891. I have a copy of the ship's manifest. They are in New Jersey in 1920. Neils is in New York in 1930 and said he had been married 31 years. Christence is living with their son in Florida in 1930. Will have to check the census record and see what she says about being married. That will give me a range of years to look throught the LDS records (the local family history center & i are very good friends) Since her sister was married in Askoy Parish in Bergen, it would be very possible that Christence was married there also.
Thank you very much--two heads for better than one when one seems to hit a road block.
Thanks again Tonia |
