Hello

I am new here & just poking around a bit.
My main enquiry is my GULLOFSEN research.
My GGG Grandfather was Martin Gullofsen. He was a ship master. I believe he came from Norway. Any clues/leads would be great.
I see the first of the family (Martin junior) being born in Paddington NSW Australia in 1872. Would love to hear from anybody.

Thanks
Kym, Australia

When was GGG Grandfather Martin Gullofsen born? Do you have any family stories about WHERE in Norway that happened? When did Martin (the senior) first appear in Australia?

Additional identification is always very helpful for any such search. Give us all details possible.

Thankyou Kaare n & Hopkins

I have sent away for Martin (Jnr) wedding certificate yesterday, so it should say where his father was from.
Unfortunately no-one in my family has any knowledge of any of th Gullofsen history.
I will get back to you when I get the certificate.

Thanks again

Hello Everyone

I received the marriage certificate in the mail today.

Marriage was in Sydney Australia 2 August 1865.

Martin Gullofsen, bachelor, mariner, aged 26 ( so he would have been born about 1839. Born Arndell Norway. His address was, onboard ships.

His father was Gullofsen Danielern, his mother Georgina Johnson. His father was a shipowner.

Is it usual for the father to have the surname first??

So how would I find a birth record or any other records for this family.

Thank you

The marriage certificate has Norwegian names a bit messed up because they didn't seem to understand Norwegian naming patterns. Take a look again at the entry from the 1865 Norwegian census link that Kaare gave you above on August 8th. The names on the marriage certificate should actually reflect the parents shown there. So you've gotten the location and the parental links that you needed!
You continue your earlier family research one generation at a time - just as all good ancestral research.

Here are two siblings of your Ole Marthin Gullofsen:

Daniel Jørgen Gulliksen, born 10 JUN 1823.
Petronelle Jørgine Gullougsdatter, christened 04 NOV 1838.

Your family are from Arendal, Aust-Agder, Norway.

Hello.
I agree with "Hopkins"
I think that OIe Martin is your man.
Se the posting before of the census 1865

Right father and nearly right mother’s name

Arndell is most likely Arendal and that is close to Austre Moland

Se map posted from Jan Peter
