I am trying to track down the passenger list for the Anchor Line ship "Europa" from June 1869. This ship went via Scotland to the USA. I actually have the passenger list from New York. However, the list states that all the people on board the ship were Swedes. I am trying to confirm if this is true, insofar as my relative came from Norway, of which I am 100% positive. His name is on the list with the right date and age. Maybe there was someone with that name and age from Sweden. Anything is possible.

Please advise.

In 1869, Norway was under the rule/control/alliance with Sweden. Many of the passenger lists would indicate Sweden for a Norwegian person. And frankly, some of the agents didn't know (or understand) the difference sometimes between a Swede/Norwegian or a Dane. My great-grandfather's passenger list record from 1879 arriving in Philadephia shows him as a Dane and his friend that he traveled with from Norway is also listed as a Dane. I have my great-grandfather's original naturalization certificate from 1895 in which he renounces all allegiances to the Kings of Sweden and Norway. I think the record you have is most certainly your ancestor.

I think Jo Anne is right.

However; the Norwegian Census 1865 might also be useful.

If you'll give me the names, birth year and other info if possible I'll try to look it up.

Maybe we can find them at the Emigrant Records too.
