There is no surviving information on those 'transfer' passengers in England. That was 'short term' information only.
You can match the various Martin Norum entries based upon age? year of immigration and arrival information as listed in his US Naturalization documents? |

Hi, I'm quite sure you have the right person. There was not that many Martin Norum's, aged 20, from Norway, who emigrated to Dakota in May/June 1900 on a prepaid ticket... :-)
A Peter Norum (18) from Grytten is registered as emigrating from Ålesund on June 6th, 1901. He looks to be travelling with these people:
Pauline Sæternæs (24), married farmer, Husband is in Dakota Nils Sæternæs 8 months (twin?) Martin Sæternæs 8 months (twin?)
At Ellis Island, they are registered as: Setternes, Pauline F 24y M Norwegian Norway Setternes, Nils M 1y 3m S Norwegian Norway Setternes, Martin M 1y 3m S Norwegian Norway Nornen, Peder M 18y S Norwegian Norway
Arriving on Jun 23, 1901 with the ship Saint Louis, sailing from Southampton.
They are all going to Bryant, SD, same destination as Martin Norum in 1900. Looks like Pauline's husband is Niels Setternes.
And "Brother Nils Seternes" is Martin's final destination according to the Ellis Island manifest.
So it looks like Nils, Martin & Peter are brothers...

I think you can be quite sure that the Martin Norum departing from Ålesund is the same as the Martin Norum arriving New York on the S/S St. Paul. I believe he departed from Ålesend on the S/S Tasso on June 7th or 8th, and traveled to Hull, England, and went by train from there to Southampton. If you study the Ålesund list you will notice that the "Reisedato" (date of travel) column must have a wrong heading, as it should probably more correctly have been "Contract dato" (date of contract). Why do I believe that? Because if you look at the entries, you see people listed one April 30th, 31st, May 5th, 6th and 7th. Now, from Ålesund there would be only one departure every week, and we know the S/S Tasso departed from Trondheim on June 7th, to call at Ålesund on the way to Hull. The Ålesund list also shows Martin Norum as having a ticket with the "American Line", and the company operating the St. Paul. |

Pauline Norum (19), unmarried, from Veblungsnæs, is emigrating from Ålesund on August 22nd, 1895.
Veblungsnæs is in Grytten parish. Could it be that Pauline is Martin and Peter's sister?
Thus Nils Seternes would be their brother in law...

I would assume Martinus & Grethe Norum are their parents.
Martinius is from Levanger, Nord Trøndelag. Grethe is from Flekkefjord, Vest Agder. Daughter Pauline Norum is born in Flekkefjord. Son Ole Norum Sættenes is born in Veblungsnes, Grytten, Møre & Romsdal

A message authored by BORGE says that Martin Norum is most likely the person to travel on the S/S Tasso from Alesund to Hull on 7 June, 1900, however in trying to locate the subject Passenger List I have met a bribk wall. What is the secret? |

What I wrote was "I believe he departed from Ålesund on the S/S Tasso". The assumption being supported by the knowledge that the Tasso departed for Trondheim on June 7, heading for Hull and calling at Ålesund, and that Martin Norum was listed in the Ålesund police lists with a date making that the most likely ship from the information we have. I could be wrong, there could have been another ship departing Ålesund on another date. There are no surviving passenger lists for the feeders between Norway and England. |

I think you would greatly benefit from reading the articles on this site about the "Hull" connection. |
