Trying to locate my family which were immigrants from Germany to the USA in the 1800's. Maybe came into Philadelphia. Looking for my anchesters from Solomon Imel on down his line. Barb

Recommend you go on www.cyndislist.com and do some basic research on Germany emigration, ports, etc. That said, Baltimore, Maryland was a big immigration port of entry for German shipping lines. Read the article about the Port of New York Records, I have ancestors who are on the Ellis Island database but they did not get off the ship in New York, about half the passengers proceeded onto Baltimore. The train station was located right next to the dock and the passenger's luggage went directly from the ship to the trains and off everyone went to their final destination in America.

Passenger arrival records for Philadelphia are available on microfilm through either National Archives or LDS Family History Centers. There were enough records to require over 240 reels of microfilm.

There is also discussion of a few other options for finding arrivals through Philadelphia you can study at the link below -

Good luck.

Thanks so much for both of your help. I actually found quite a bit of my anchesters from Solomon Imel on down. And my Grandmothers side from the web sites you gave me. Thanks again - - it was a great help.
