I am helping my cousin with her genealogy. I have no idea of the family's exact Norwegian ancestry location, but 95% of the families in the area they settled in were from Ringebu. All of my ancestors from the area were also from Ringebu.

Her g-grandfather was a Michael Peterson - b. June 1885 in Norway (according to the 1900 U.S.Census). He was also refered to as Mike Peterson. He immigrated in 1885. He married a Clara (b. March 1857) in about 1880 (according to the 1910 U.S. Census - very clear). The 1900 census was very hard to read, but the name could have been Oline? She also immigrated in 1885 and I assume with her husband.

They had a daughter Carrie (according to the 1900 U.S. Census) born in Norway in May 1882. I would guess her name was really Kari.

I have run out of my few ideas on searches and would appreciate some direction.

Hello Dick
Pleas make a check on the marriage year comparing to the birth year fore Mike. It is not so many times a person is married before he was born. Or it is some thing else I have misunderstand.

If it is possible put in the links or a copy to the findings you have.

Sorry about the error. Michael (or Mike) Peterson was born in June 1855 and NOT 1885. To me, Michael does not sound like a common Norwegian name.

Somewhere I recall seeing alisting that listed Norwegians in the U.S. I think it was Norwegians, but maybe it was the Swedes from the other part of my ancestry.

Thank you for pointing out my error.

Dick
