Hi
This is my first time at this site so I don't excactly know how to do this... But I am having some troubles finding my grandmother's uncle and am hoping to get some help from you.
Information from Digitalarkivet (immigrants from Trondheim 1867-1930):
Year: 1910 Date of travel: 11.05.1910 First name: Ole Last name: Gunders. Lilleevjen Born: 1888 Lived in: Selbu, Norway Destination: La Crosse, Wash. Line: Canadian Ship: Salmo
When it comes to last name it's a bit uncertain because he could have changed it to just Gunderson, Gunnarson, Evjen, or any other options. Even so, I think our best luck would be with "Ole Gunderson (Gundersen?)"
My grandmother's family didn't ever hear from him again so any information would be appreciated.

Well, actually, that information was helpful, the more facts known the better.
Ole traveled on the Canadian line which meant he arrived in Quebec or Montreal. I would recommend finding his passenger list and that might yield more information, ie: who was his contact in La Crosse, employer, etc. His ticket was paid for in America. You can search for the passenger list here:
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/passenger/001045-100.01-e.php
He went on the Salmo to Hull, England and traveled to an English port to catch his ship to Canada. You know the date he registered to leave Norway and I would search starting about 10 days after that.
What was Ole's exact birthdate? Did any other family members or relatives emigrate?

The 1975 Census for Selbu gives Gunder's mother's name. Ole Gundersen, born 1824 Gjertrud Olsdatter, born 1829 Gunder Olsen, born 1856 Ingeborg Olsdatter, born 1862 Kari Olsdatter, born 1865.
Not much help for the USA search.

But this Ole & Gjertrud are (of course) his paternal grandparents. |
