Looking for marriage records of Nikolai Ellefsen and Hanne Thorkildsen (Torkelsen) in Arendal between 1900 and 1904.

There were/are two areas of Norway known as Arendal, one in Aust-Agder, the other in Vestfold. You should check for the parish marriage records in those areas. If they are not yet in the online scanned collection of the Digitalarkivet website then order microfilm copies of the parish books of that time period through your local LDS Family History Center.

Wondering if you Hanne Thorkildsen that married Nikolai may have been my husband's great aunt Anna Thorkildsen that married a Nikolai. Anna's brother was Torvald Wilhelm Thorkildsen born in Oslo in 1886 to Klemet and Josefine.

Sheps - No, it is NOT likely to be the same woman. The Anna Thorkildsen in Oslo that you mention would only have been 12 years old in 1900.

Do you have a birthdate for Nikolai Ellefsen? I found a Nikolai Ellefsen b. 19 June 1863 in Landvik, Aust-Agder, Norway to parents Ellif Andersen and Karen Nilsdatter. Landvik was incorporated into Grimstad, which isn't very far from Arendal.

I found the 1920 US Census that lists Nicholas Ellefson as being 45 years old and Hanna as being 48 yrs. That would make his birthdate abt 1875, so the Nikolai Ellefsen I found, would not be the correct one.

The 1920 Census, also lists Nicholas and Hanna as immigrating in 1906. Their daughters, Thyra 12 and Emma 9, were both born in New York. In 1920, they are living in Philadelphia, Ward 39, PA.

According to the info from the 1910 Census, they had been married 3 years, but the census taker made many errors, such as listing their daughter Tressa as 30 years instead of 3 years. They also listed her as being married, when Nick and Hannah are listed as being 34 and 35 years old. In 1910, they are living in Kingsbury Township, Washington County, New York. They are listed as Nick and Hannah Elleson.

Hopefully, the 1930 Census will help in narrowing down the year of their wedding. The 1930 US Census finds them living in Camden, NJ.
Ellefson, Nickolis, owns his home, 53 yrs., married at age 29, born Norway, immigrated in 1904, works as a carpenter in a shipyard.
Ellefson, Hannah M., wife, 55 yrs., married at age 31, born Norway, immig. 1904.
Ellefson, Thyra, daughter, 22 yrs., single, born NY, works as Floor Lady at Factory
Till, Emma M., daughter, 20 yrs., married, married at age 18, born NY, works as a book binder at a publisher
Till, Emma M., granddaughter, 1 yrs., born New Jersey.

This would mean that they must have married fairly close to 1904, right before they came to the U.S.
