I am hoping someone out there can help me, I am trying to find the passenger list for a Israel Tjernstom ( born 1841)and Jonas Vilhem Tjernstrom ( 1844) who lived in Sundvall Sweden and migrated to Australia about 1867. I remember hearing of a ship the Vidfarne. But this could be just heresay. There is a possibity, they were working on the ship. and possibly ( according to old stories) jumped ship in South Australia Any help would be greatly appreciated Maureen Charnstrom tamarisk@iprimus.com.au |

The Vidfarne we have in our register left Cardiff, England 29 Nov 1866 for Victoria Harbor, South Australia. There were reports that a ship by this name arrived Rio Janeiro in March 1867, an Captain Johannesen. She returned to England from Port Victor (?) South Australia 17 June 1867.

Perhaps you should try one of the mailing lists offered through this website - http://www.rootsweb.com/~swewgw/index.htm
Someone there should be able to give you information about the Swedish emigration CD that is available, "Emigranten". I'm not sure who makes it available, but I've heard them refer to it. |

I have the Emigranten CD Edition 2001, I paid $200. for it a few years back. I have checked it and not find them in it, searched a few different ways. They could be there but I could not find them.
Recommend you read some of the articles on this site and do some Swedish history research, it is extremely doubtful that ships sailed directly from Sweden to Australia.
Cyndislist.com would give you many links on Australian and Swedish emigration/immigration. |

And if, as you mention as a possibility, they "jumped ship" they won't be listed on any passenger list anyway. Try looking for crew lists of ships arriving in Austrialia. There appear to be a large number of related ships, passenger and crew lists for various Australian ports - if many are available through the LDS Family History Library collection - even more are probably available in Australia. |

I just realized that if they were sailors then they would not have been listed on the CD and ships crews were usually a separate list than the passenger lists. So the "jumped ship" story may be true.
Maybe some Austrailian postings can give tips on how to find Australian passenger lists. |
