I am interested in the trade that took place with the UK and the ships that were used to transaport ice from Norway to the UK and in particular London at the end of the 19th and start of the 20th century.
Any contacts / information would be most welcome about this unusual work ended with large scale refridgeration.
Many thanks

Thanks Jo Anne - yes I have done that many times. Although there is useful information around about the exporting of ice from Norway to the UK and indeed about the USA exportation to India there is very little about the ship themselves - what I have found that is - would love to be proved wrong.

Well, not everything is on the Internet. You can contact the Norwegian Maritime Museum in Oslo, they have helped me in the past, written requests only:

Norsk Sjøfartsmuseum
Bygdøynesveien 37
0286 Oslo
NORWAY

Maritime Museums in the U.K. may have more information. From my brief look are some of the sights, most of the ships were sailing ships originating from southern Norwegian ports.
