Continuing my family history, could anyone give me the parents of Endre Rolandson Tistel, born 1828 at Tistel Farm, Vik i Sogn and for his wife Ragnhild Olsdotter Orvedal born 1836 on Orvedal Farm, Vik. Many thanks!

1801 census Wiig parish - farm Tistel- I am not sure but: Roland Guttormsen age 23, unmarried, son of Guttorm Olsen age 53 and Martha Jonsdatter age 51. None on farm Orvedal name Ole in 1801 sensus. Someone with acess to Vik bygdebok would give an answer. Watch Orvedal in Sogn, photo nr 6 show Orvedal seen from the mountain. http://vikjavev.no/foto/?bilete=3201

Thank you again to all! I've had a productive day! Another question........My g-g-grandmother who married John Hove when she came to America in 1852 was listed as Helga Olsd. Seim of Vik. I cannot find a Helga in Vik under Seim. I received this info from Neil Hofland and feel it is correct. The number preceding her listing in the emigrant list is 5562 15866 1852 k 14 4 1852 0 Helga Olsd. Seim u H 1824 0.00 Vik Nordamerika 1417 1553 3.00 1417 0 k helga olsd. seim 1852 vik That is how it was printed out. Any help would be great! Thanks again! Carol

Hi,
could they have lived at the Lilleøren farm at the time Helga was born?

Helga Sæbø Olsdatter, born 22-mar-1824
Parents: Bachelor Ole Olssen Lilleøren & Brita Olsdatter

The family could have moved to Seim later.

I think Jan Peter is right, Lilleøeren or Vetleøyri or Seimsøyri in the 1801 census was a cotters place or a small hamlet under Seim. Person nr 854-Ole Olsen age 3 was living with his brother Anders age 8 and his mother, widow Ingerid Olsdatter age 39. More info about Vetleøyri in the photo register.

Thank you "jwiborg" and "Kåarto" for the info. I've been puzzled about Helga as I can not find information about her and her family on any web site. I notice that each of you have a different name for Helga's mother............Does bachelor mean her father and mother were not married which I know was very common or is that part of his name?

Hi, bachelor means unmarried or Ungkarl/Ungkar in Norwegian, as unmarried girl was called Pige. In this case it means they was not married and in the churcrecords you can watch the word Uægte / false. It´s Ole Olsen Lilleøren / Semsøren born about 1798´s mother that was widow Ingerid Olsdatter age 48 (I made her 9 years younger yesterday)
Take a look in Einars link Bygdebasen, enter Vikjavev and the farm register and all your ancestors farms can be watced

Hi,
uægte is short for "utenfor ægteskap", and was used to indicate that the child was born outside marriage. I think it's too stiff to translate it with false...

Hi.
Maybee outside the subject, but the penalty for any attempt to hide an Uægte birth was risky. According the potocol from local meetings of juridical importanc in Sauherad in Telemark "Tingbøkene" Gunvor Gundersdatter on Sept. 29.1774 was judged to 8 years in prison for hiding a birth and on Sept 26. 1777, Eli Alfsdatter was judged for a hidden birt to "miste sin hals og hendes hode sættes på stake" loose her neck and her head to be put upon a pole. If this judgements was carried out I don´t know.
