He originally came to the States about 1870-1871. He was born in Oct 1859. In the 1880 census, his occupation was lathing houses. He came with his brother Edward b abt 1856, and his sister Bertha, b abt 1865. I have no other information on any parents. John married Emma b Oct 1863 born in Sweden. I don't know what part of Norway they came from other than a Loberg farm. Is there anyone that can help me I would really appreciate anything. |

Sorry, I forgot to add that John Loberg died on Sep 1, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They had 3 children, Archie b Apr 1888, died bef 1908, Walter b Jul 13, 1891 in St Paul, Minnesota (he's my great-grandfather) died on Dec 16, 1980 in Tucson, Arizona, and Russell b May 25, 1897 (no other info on him other than the 1930 census in North Dakota. Sorry for that. |

His was likely born on a farm named Lĝberg: I have following farms named Lĝberg in finn.no-maps: Next to Bryne (parish?) in Rogaland County - at Lake Hurdal in Akershus County - Stange parish in Hedmark County and three farms in Gjerpen/Skien parish in Telemark Couny- in the Taxprotocol 1670-71 and later. Most of the emigrants named Lĝberg seems to came from Skien in Telemark and Hedmark. Sorry, but that is all I got. |

Thank you for replying. I think I've got him as Johan Andreassen Loberg coming from Furnes, Hedmark. If we're talking about the right one. In one 1880 census, he's shown living with his brother and sister, Edward and Bertha, in Minneapolis, yet in another 1880 census, there is a johan loberg shown living in Chisago Co, Minnesota. I'm investigating further. The birthdates for both are the right ones, I just have to see if they're the same people. I appreciate any and all help in this. |

They were not the same people. I found out in a phone call to my great-aunt that they never lived in chisago co, minnesota. She doesn't know John A Loberg's former name or what part of norway he's from. She did know that his norwegian name started with an A, that's why his middle name was A. |

1885 Wyoming Twp, Chisago County census, page 1: Andrew E. Loberg, age 50, born Norway Elac [female; probably Eli] Loberg, 54, born Norway Beate Loberg, 20, born Norway Martin Loberg, 14, born Norway Betsy Loberg, 12, born MN Oscar E. Loberg, 9, born MN -------- 1885 Minneapolis, Wards 7-8 census, page 1: Elias Loberg, age 34, born Norway Bertha Loberg, age 29, born Norway Alfred Loberg, age 2, born MN Anna Loberg, age 10 months, born MN -------- I don't see any Loberg name starting with a "J." in the 1885 MN census. However, there is a John Anderson, age 26, born Norway, living in Minneapolis with several other males in their 20s and 30s. Two of the men are Andrew Loberg, age 20, born Norway and Nels Loberg, age 19, born Sweden (!)
Most of the Lobergs mentioned above are buried near each other at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis: http://www.lakewoodcemetery.com/f_welcome.htm |
