well, that's if the people from vang, hedmark are the correct people! andrew and eli are the names of the parents of johan andreassen and if they are the right ones, then yes, we have the people. like i said, they did move to minneapolis before the 1900 census. i'm going to go ahead with them being correct. i'll research further with them! thank you!! |

Let me put it another way; where have you located Andrew & Eli in census-1880? You haven't stated so, but I guess the 1900-census shows Andrew imigrating about 1870, and Eli about 1871?
If so; they should be in the 1880-census. And the chisago co people are a good hit; if not the only hit.
And you haven't btw found a brother Martin Loberg in the 1900-census, born ca 1870?
Btw; their mother Eli is born 07 Feb 1830 in Vang, Hedmark, by parents Johannes Halvorsen & Berthe Larsdr

No, haven't found Martin at all. The only place I find Eli and Andrew is in the 1880 census in Chisago Cty. According to the 1900 and 1910 census, they did come to the US about 1870 and 1871. So, I'm assuming we have the correct people. I'm running with it to see what I can find. Thank you for her parents names! I'm hoping I found Andreas's parents? Erik Andersen and Marthe Jensdtr? |

I saw the other one as well, but he was born a year earlier, and named Anders, not Andreas.
So I would say Andreas b.1835 is the strongest possibility. Original churchrecord shows he is born on Granberg farm in Vang.
Anders born 1834 is from Markestad farm in Vang.
Their wedding certificate shows that the groom was vaccinated by Dr Larsen on 02-Oct-1835. She (Eli) was vaccinated by Dr Hammer on 21-Dec-1831. Being born February 1830, she was 22 months old then. So maybe your "Anders" is a better match after all..., it's a 50/50...

A final thought..., I think I would go for Andreas born 13 Feb 1835. His mother was Berthe Jacobsdr.
Knowing that Andreas had a girl named Berthe, he is the strongest possibilty, taking the strong naming traditions into consideration.
None of the children are named Marthe or Jens, which would be from Anders' mothers side.

Tami, I found your post when I was searching for Norwegian people who were in Gaspe, Quebec, during the years of 1860-62. My ancestors were there at that time, Ludvig, Peter, and Fredrick Brandt, among others. Have you read about the failed settlement there? N. C. Brun writes about it and it is included in the history books about Norwegian Immigration to America. I have been interested in locating any of the other descendants of this group of settlers. I recently even took a trip to Gaspe to explore the areas that they tried to settle.

Thank you, Susan!
I will definitely have to look that up and read about it. I know they weren't there for very long, but I did have 2 family members born there!
