I am interested in locating the passenger list (if printed) of my g-g-grandfather, Tosten (Torstein) Olson, who emigrated to Minnesota in 1882 along with his family. I have used the web site "Digitalarkivet: Emigrants from Trondheim 1867-1930" previously but cannot bring it up at this time. Is there a problem at my end? Appreciate any suggestions? Also is there a web site with the lay of the land or drawings of the Hegra, Norway area? I am interested in the location of the farms, particularly Stageberg. Many thanks for your help.

Hi,
the website is accessable, but a bit slow at the moment..., probably due to high traffic. They also encountered some DNS problems last week, which should be solved now.

Thank you Jan. My search engine would not bring up the Digitalarkivet site. You are correct in that it is slow. I could not find my family on the emigrant listing. I am looking for Torstin (Tosten, Torstein) Olson Ingstadklev of Hegra. I found them on the 1865 census and know that Torstein came in 1882 with their daughter Gurina. I think Mali and other family members came a year or 2 later. Am I missing something?

Thorsten Sørkil (40) and daughter Gurina Sørkil (17) from Øvre Stjørdal emigrating to Wells, Minnesota on 22-Mar-1882.

Mali Sandbjørgen (44) with daughters Karen Sandbjørgen (14) and Anna Sandbjørgen (11), emigrating to Wells, Minnesota on 05-Sep-1883.

Could they be your Torstein Olsen Ingstadklev b. 9-Nov-1841 & Mali Torgersdatter b. 27-Jul-1839...?

Do not ask me why they are named Sørkil and Sandbjørgen, but there are farms named Sørkil and Sonbjørgen in the area...

Thanks again, Jan!! I'm sure these are the right people but those names!! Do you suppose these were farm names that they were living on at the time they left for America? So interesting! Thanks also for the maps. I had no clue just where the area of Hegra was located. I will study these maps tomorrow.

Yes,I suppose so..., census-1875 could maybe retrieve more information. (Hegra parish not online for 1875...) Also, if you locate their girls' birth-records, it would most likely show their place of birth.
It could for instance be that Mali moved to her sister or brother or something, after her husband emigrated to the US. He would have to get a job in Minnesota and work there for some time, to be able to save up enough money to pay for the travel for the rest of the family.

You can see from Mali's emigration that their tickets have been prepaid, most likely by her husband in the US.

Carol.

Here are links to online parish records for Nord Trondelag municipality.

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_fylke=17&idx_kilde=Alle&idx_periode=&idx_textsearch=&js=j

These records are not complete yet. But perhaps some of the records you might need are here?

The parishrecords are scanned from microfilm, and are images of the churchbooks. The records are written in Norwegian.

Hope that you might find something that you are looking for.

If you are looking for parishrecods for anywhere else in Norway, you can also find them at the site.

Just press "Clear" and you will come to the frontpage of the site. There there are some directions of how to use the site.
