In the Parish Register Emigration for Gloppen, Sogn Og Fjordane, there is a list of people leaving on April 14, 1867: Amund Martinusen Fosnes and family. Under his wife's name, Kristin Brite Kristoffersdatter, there is something printed that I can't read and obviously don't understand....Can ANYONE tell me what this is? Thank you! |

I read it as "Samt med børn" which would translate something like "and with children" |

Thank you, Børge. The reason I was asking was there was a girl, Bergita, born in 1867 in Norway according to the 1870, 1880 census with those parents, but I can't find her birth record anywhere. According to the book my grandmother gave me, she was born on 22 Apr 1867, but if the parents left the Parish on 14 Apr 1867, emigrated to Bergen and left there on 2 May 1867, I would have thought that the ship manifest would have had her on it? |

Hi Tami, likely Bergita (Bergitte) was not their child since she don´t exist neither in the shiplist on bark Helvetia Mai 2. 1867 or in the church records from Gloppen parish 1855-70, but these records was a bit hard to understand. Nils was likely their last born child in Norway April. 2 1865. In 1865 the family lived on farm Hestenæsøren (Horse spit / spit of land), Amund as a renter and merchant. Summary of the farm: 2 cattle, 5 sheep, 1 pig and 2 barrels of potatoes. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=2&filnamn=f61445&gardpostnr=266&merk=266#ovre Kåre |
