Can anyone help me find a marriage for her? She was born on 4 Oct 1844 in Stryn, supposedly she married a Wilhelm Yri (I know that's not a Norwegian name) b 1845 in Norway died 1916 (somewhere). Anne(a) died 1923 somewhere. I'm not sure if they emigrated to the US or not. I found her birth record..her parents are Arne Rasmussen and Synneve Larsdatter, but I can't find a marriage record. Please help!!

Thank you!!

Hi Tami, Yri is Norwegian,
it´s likely Villum Rasmussen Yri, or Bakyri (bak=behind) age 21 in 1865, he was a Bøtker, making barrels.

Villum lives with his four brothers: Mons, David working as a Tailor, Martines and Bendt, his father Rasmus, mother Lisbeth and grandmother "Føderaadskone" Mari Rasmusdatter b.a. 1778.

Yri lies south of Olden, Eastern side of lake Oldevatnet. My GG mother Mari Jonssdatter was born on one of these farms Nov. 28. 1824

Villum was born on Bakyri Dec. 14. 1845 according his confirmaion records, nr 10
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8395&idx_id=8395&uid=ny&idx_side=-139

Villum/Wilhelm and Anne´s marriage records, Fathers Rasmus Davidsen and Arne Rasmussen. Best men: his brother David Rasmusen Yri and Matheus Rasmussen Eide (her uncle?) couple nr 19.
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8396&idx_id=8396&uid=ny&idx_side=-148

Anne was born on farm Yttr Bø in Nord Stryn acc. her confirmation records from July 7. or August 4. 1859.
We know her fathes´s name Arne b. about 1796 from her wedding, her mother was Synnøve Larsdatter Glomnæs b. about 1805, daughter of Lars Knudtsen Glømnæs. They married June 25. 1826
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=5&filnamn=INNV15VI&gardpostnr=366&merk=366#ovre

Lars Knudsen Glomnæs married Nov. 15. 1795 Kari Rasmusdatter Kirkeide (likely a cotters place owned/eiet by the church), he was son of:
Knud Larsen Glomnæs, Soldier ( Bergenhusiske Regiment- Stryenske Company) and Birthe Jørgensdatter Bolstad, they married Oct. 19. 1765

A lot of people from Yri emigrated to USA.

Widower Rasmus Davidsen Yri age 28 and Lisebeth/Elisabeth Villumsdatter age 35married Mai. 30. 1839 in Olden church. Fathers: David Rasmusen Yri and Villum Mortensen Yri

http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=15&filnamn=INNV15VI&gardpostnr=818&merk=818#ovre

David Rasmussen Bakyri married Mari Rasmusdater Aabreche/Åbrekke in Olden church Jun 19. 1808
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=19&filnamn=INNVVIGD&gardpostnr=1527&merk=1527#ovre

Wilhelm/Villum Mortensen Sunde who Villum Rasmussenn was named after married Birthe Jonsdatter Yri Nov. 16. 1794.
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=4&filnamn=INNVVIGD&gardpostnr=1158&merk=1158#ovre

Birthe Jonsdatter Yri b. Nov. 29. 1769 was daughter of Jon Rasmussen and Elisabeth Andersdatter Yttre (outher) Yri. All the Yri farms was placed on a spit at lake Oldevatnet.

Only church records can conferm this 100%

LDS have a record of a marriage between these people:

Willum Rasmussen & Anne Arnesdr
Marriage: 16 AUG 1874, Olden, Sogn Og Fjordane

They married just in time before their girl Elisabet Andrine was born...

Other children:
Rasmus, born 27-Oct-1878, parents Villum Rasmussen & Anne Arnesdatter, farm Oldeøren
Rasmus, born 11-Apr-1883, parents Willum Rasmussen Yri & Anne Arnesdatter, farm Muri
Agneta Vilhelmine, born 13-Dec-1885, parents Vilum Rasmussen Yri & Anne Arnesdatter, farm Oldøren

Willum Rasmussen Yri was a village shopkeeper

But something is strange here...
Villum Rasmussen on the Bakyri farm in census-1900 for Innvik, Sogn & Fjordane is married to a girl named Dorthe Sjursdatter...

And Dorthe is the mother of their son Sivert born 10-Jan-1876...

Are we talkking about two Villum Rasmussen's here...? Confused...

Jan Peter

Yes,
Yri (strange name) can be confusing with Bakyri, Indre(Inner), Ytre (outher) sometimes just Yri, also cotters places named Yri and two mountain pastures where also people was living.
It was allmost "Rasmus" people on every Yri farm from census to sensus, almost like a large family.
In this case "our" Villum was born 1845 and his brother David was best man in his wedding

Wow, I thank you, Kåre and Jan Peter for the information! I was searching thru the census and couldn't find a Wilhelm Yri at all. You are amazing. I also really didn't think it was a Norwegian name. Thank you so much!

What's awful about this whole thing, is that I looked thru all the marriage records for Innvik for all the years and still didn't see that. I skipped right over it. I must have been tired last night while I was looking.

I did look in LDS but I looked under Wilhelm or Vilhelm and it didn't bring anything up. Of course, I looked under Yri too and that didn't bring anything up. I didn't know his actual name!

I found the Yris in the 1900 Census. They still lived in Innvik and lived on the farm Øldoren, Muri!! I don't think they emigrated to the States. Now I just need their death records!!

Yes!
Link

Vilhelm Yri's occupation reads "Hotelier - Sub-postmaster - Village Shopkeeper - Farmer"

Quite a busy man!

His son Sivert is a salesman (clerk) at the local shop, but also works as an interpreter at the hotel.
Son Rasmus works at the post office, and as a salesman (clerk) at the local shop. The shop and post-office was probably co-located. Daughter Lisebet is a hotel manageress.

I sure wish Innvik had records after 1878!! It's so hard to find people that were born, married, died after that. Is there anywhere else to look for that information besides the census?

And, yes, Jan Peter, it does sound like they were a busy family, doesn't it?!

Is it Easter there too?

Hotelowner Vilhelm Yri (1846-1917) from Olden bought in 1874 the old village shop on Oldenøyra, and builded a hotel by the river.

Later, in 1899 he builded a new hotel called "Yris Hotell" further up the village. This was one of the biggest and best tourist hotels on the west coast of Norway.
The original buildings were demolished in 1999. http://www.yris.no/

An old postcard from Yris Hotel, with the famous Glacier Briksdalsbreen in the background:

When Vilhelm Yri was in the 60's, he transferred the hotelmanagement in Olden to his sons Rasmus og Sivert Yri. Vilhelm then moved to Nordfjordeid, where he bought the old guest house on Gjerde, and run it as Yris Hotell until he died.

ps: And yes, it's Easter here in Norway...

Wow! Thank you so much for the pictures! I'm definitely going to save them. So, that means that Anne Arnesdatter (Wilhelm Yri's wife) also died in Nordfjordeid, Norway in 1923? What county is that in?

Well, then, Happy Easter!

Hi,
Nordfjordeid are also in Sogn & Fjordane county. It's further west of Olden, and on the north side of the fjord Nordfjord.

Both Vilhelm and Anne should be buried at the Eid church in Nordfjordeid township (Eid municipality, Sogn & Fjordane county).

Eid church in Nordfjordeid. Build 1849, renovated 1915:

I printed them all out and am going to put them into one of my notebooks that I have my ancestry stuff in. I never thought I'd get any information on this part of my family!! Anne Arnesdtr is my 3rd great grand aunt and I really love being able to fill in information. Thanks to you and Kåre, I can do that!!

Innvik church records after 1878 are available on microfilm and can be rented at a local Family History Center:

When I what to find the name of a county in Norway, I just go on Google, type in - town name norway county - and you will get the name of the county and a whole lot of other information you may find interesting.

Eid churchrecords are not under Innvik? I believe they should be under Eid, but it doesn't look like there are churchrecords available after 1907...?
