My grandfathers name on the passenger list (sept 1917) was
Haakon Dalsgaard Sjursen I found out that Dalsgaard is a farm name.
Can any one tell me where the farm is or was located??

What passenger list? Leaving from which Norwegian port?
What other identifying information about Haakon is available -- age at time of emigration? stated birthplace and/or residence? destination?

Would this be Haakon with parents and siblings on a Dalsgaard farm in Tysnes, Hordaland, Norway?

The record I have is of Haakon coming over to the US from Kristiania, Akershus, Norway date of arrival Sept. 22, 1917 with my grandmother Helga.
They resided in Wellesley , MA He died in the 1919 epidemic, my mother was only one. We or I didn't think about my heritage until late in life.
the records says he was a us citizen so I don't know when his first trip was. My grandmother was from Sweden but also shows as us citizen at the time of arrival. They told me when I was little that he came from Norway but didn't think to ask where.
The ship name was Bergensfjord Thank you for your reply and any information you may have. oreo

I just looked on the web site you gave me for the Norwegian historical data and it appears that he was born in 1886.
That would be the right age as it shows his age on arrival was 30y 9m. I assume Tysnes SB will be on the map of Norway.

Thank you Oreo

Tysnes/Tysnæs district in Hordaland is far closer to ports of Bergen and Stavanger than Oslo - would expect to find emigration record there.

Yes, leaving on or about 5 May 1905 from port of Bergen is 19 year old Haakon Sjursen Dalsgård from Tysnæs.

On May 23, 1905, the Philadelphia Passenger Lists 1800-1945 shows a Haakon Sjursen b abt 1887, being 18 years old, on his way to Boston, Mass. on the ship Westernland. Could this be the same one? I can't find anything showing a 1917 date on it.

The reason you were not able to find Haakon name on the 1917 date is because they spelled it wrong on the passenger record.
Name Haakon Dahlsgaard-Sjursen. The miss spelling caused a lot of confusion when I was first looking up when he came over.
There other dalsgaard that came over but the age or place or residency wasn't right. Any way I believe that it was in 1905 when he first here to the US.
The name Sjursen appears on my birth card as a middle name. All other documents (her's birth, death & passport) refer to my mother as Helen Dalsgaard. Which name should I look up for any relatives here or in Norway? Thanks for your info. Oreo
