Hi - I am brand new to this and looking for guidance. My husband and I will be going to Norway this summer and hope to find some of the farms his relatives emigrated from. Luckily, a relative has supplied us with the farm names. Is there a way to find out where these farms are located on a map so we could drive by and see them? Here is what we know so far:

From the 1865 census in the Fla area of Buskerud:
Moen under 65
Trøstem 86a

1865 census of Hurdal, Akershus:
Solsrud

Thank you for any help you can offer!

Hi Barbara,
Solsrud farm is a 45 minute drive north of Oslo airport Gardermoen.
The farm is located next to the Winter Ski resort Hurdal Ski senter, which should get you in the right direction. http://www.hurdalskisenter.no/ Link

Hi again,
Trøstem 86a are nowadays called "Trøstheim øvre", and has landnumber 23, titlenumber 2 in Flå municipality, Buskerud. Owner in 1950 was Mikkel G. Trøstheim. The farm is located 2 km north-west of Flå Kirke (church), on the southern side of the river Hallingdalselven. Driving distance from Oslo airport Gardemoen is 156 km, or about 2.5 hrs.

If you have time, stop at Honefus and Fagernes, north of Gardermoen about 2 hours to Honefus and a little more to Fagernes. Great scenery, great people ! I was there last year and had a wonderful time.

Then the last farm; Moen under 65

Farm number 65 for Flaa in the census you refer to, is called Kolsrud (spelled Kaalsrud in the 1865-census), so Moen would be a small holding/subfarm under that farm.

In census-1900, you can find a farm named Kolsrudmoen in that area. That would probably be your farm.
However, it does not look to exist today, but the farm would have been loacated on the land belonging to the farm Kolsrud Nordre. People living at Kolsrud Nordre could maybe help you with the exact loaction of Moen/Kolsrudmoen homestead...

Hello.
Welcome to Norway!!

Are you a member of the Hallinglaget? They are celebrate in june this year because they are 100 yeras old. And as Hallings , they are strong!

Engebret Eriksen was born in ERiksmoen , a cotterplace under North Kolsrud farm.

But Engebret and Kari lived on a cotterplace called Kolsrudmoen a place under South Kolsrud farm.

Kari was from a cotterplace under Trøstheim farm.

They left to the US in 1870.
I got the informations from a friend , that is writing farm and family books from that area. Mr. Terje Østro.

Regards
Tormod

Dear Tormod,

Thank you for your message. We are not members of the Hallingslaget. Could you tell me what it is?

Engebret Ericksen Moen was my husband's great-great grandfather. Thank you for the information you wrote about where he and Kari lived. Please let Mr. Terje Østro know that we would be happy to share any information with him if he needs anything about the Moen descendents in the U.S. And if he has any additional information about Engebret Ericksen or his son Halvor Engebretson, we would be very grateful.

Best wishes,
Barbara
