Family rumour has it that my great grandmother was a "mail order" bride, and that she and my gr grandfather had not met prior to her emmigrating to the US.

Was this a common practice in the mid to late 1800's? If so, is there anywhere that records of this may have been kept?

Does anyone know of any sites that discuss the culture and custom's of Norway?

There are probably a great number of resources on the web about Norwegian culture. Try Cyndis List and John Føllesdal's fantastic site "Ancestors from Norway" (see our link section). I will also use the opportunity to promote some of the articles to be found here on the Norway Heritage web site:
