I am seeking information on this family from Elverum Norway.
The information I have is Johan Olsen born Elverum 1842
Karoline Larsdatter born Elverum 1840. Married in Elverum in 1862.
Their children I found in Parish records.
Ole b: 3/3/1863
Lars b: 6/5/1864-d:4/20/1867
Helge b: 10/11/1865
Lars b: 7/28/1886
Martinus b: 10/15/70-my g grandfather-came to Texas

Karolen b: 6/9/1873-I think this is a sister they call Julia who came to TX-married Martin Edward Aulie in 1910 and the moved back to Norway in 1928.

Anna b: 2/2/1884-came to TX-married and died in TX

Toline b: 2/2/87

I have information that the family lived on Hagen main farm 132 sub farm 2 in Elverum.

I do not speak or read Norwegian and would like information on the farm as I have been told the farm books have better information about the family. Also if there are any living cousins we would love to have them contact us. Thank you in advance for your time.

Thank you,

Beverly Lyn Revis

Elverum is in Hedmark, Norway.

My notes show a bygdebøk for that area which is "Elverum en Bygdebeskrivelse", 2 volumes by S.H. (Stian Herlofsen) Finne-Grønn. A WorldCat search shows that at least 6 American libraries own those volumes and that several of those participate in the Inter-Library Loan program through your local public library.

Also consider checking with various online "Lookup Volunteer" listings to see if anyone has those books and is willing to check them to see if your family is listed, which volume, what page, etc.

If you plan on doing extensive research into Norwegian ancestors you'll need to find a way to translate at least the basic words. Try using the translation word lists under "Links" above in upper right area of this page and consider buying a good Norwegian-English dictionary.
I work on my own translations to every extent possible. This is the way I've learned the basic words and most of the abbreviations I've encountered in parish records and bygdebøker for the areas of my ancestry. The other narrative information I've collected I work at slowly when I can. I've never considered genealogy to be a quick hobby; but a life-long fascination.

Thank you very much for the information. I was always told that my g grandfather returned to Norway but found out 3 yrs ago that was not true. After 3 years of searching I found his unmarked grave and I have purchased a marker for it. On June 9, 2007 the Hagen family is meeting at St. Olaf's cemetery in Cransfill Gap TX to honor him. He has been buried in an unmarked grave next to his brother in law for 85 years. Why this happened I don't know but I think it was because they were poor and ashamed they could not afford a headstone.

I just want to be able to give his desendents as much information about his life and family as I can.

Again, Thank You.

Thank you,

To the poster Hopkins,

I am sorry if I offended you, I only ask for information on the farm and possible descendents. Many kind people have helped me these past three years in finding his grave and if it were not for the wonderful people on Roots.web I would not have been able to have his date of birth engraved on his marker. After the people at Roots.web directed me where to look I did all the research on his siblings myself. I am very grateful for everyones help. This is going to be a joyful time for the Hagen family and hopefully we wil be able to donate much needed cash for this small church to use for improvements to their cemetery. This part of Texas is known as the Norwegian Capital of Texas and I am happy to be connected to it's heritage as I am proud to be connected to Norway's heritage.

Thank you,

I do not want to waste anyone's time so please do not do any research on this family.
A man from Norway contacted me today on Rootsweb and has provided a lot of information on the family in Norway and farm information.

.

Thank you,

Beverly
Sorry to post this here but I did a search and your name came up here.
Do you happen to be the surviving spouse of Patrick Revis? I am curious as I have been researching my dads family and came across the name Addie Clyde Carpenter who is the daughter of Elisha (E.L. Carpenter) who was a twin to my great grandpa Lijah. Addie had a daughter Betty Jo, who had a daughter name Beverly Lyn Metz (who later married Patrick) If we are related I would love to hear from you. Please send me an email. Sandy Spurling
