This looks like beeing be the right family.

Their son Martin was born in Ørkedalen (Orkdal parish in Nord trøndelag County. Is poor boy /pauper Johan Petter Wiig age 14 working on farm Ødegaarden in Ørkedalen, born in Trondheim another son?

Their son Johan was born in Strinden in Sør trøndelag County, is Johan Oluf Wiig´s family also from the same family?
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=2&filnamn=f61660&gardpostnr=308&personpostnr=1886&merk=1886#ovre

But where was Christopher in 1865?

That was what I was wondering....where is Christopher? Being 13/14, I would have thought he'd be with his family. I couldn't find him anywhere! I'm pretty sure that's the right family, but maybe not?

The older members of the family are listed as born in Nedre Størdalen. Their son Christopher/Kristoffer born ca. 1851 would be about 14 years old for the 1865 census and he could be living elsewhere - either temporarily or not.

See this Kristoffer Johansen born 1851 in Størdals Prgj. --
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=1630&kenr=006&bnr=0032&lnr=000

US censuses in 1900, 1910, and 1920 should list WHEN Christopher immigrated to the US. Teresa - you've probably studied those already - WHEN did he immigrate?

Closest port should be Trondheim - so perhaps this entry for a "Kristofer Vig", 19 years old and leaving in 1870 with stated destination of Omaha (Nebraska).
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=18&filnamn=EMITROND&gardpostnr=6794&sokefelt=skjul

Need more information from US to be sure.

Christopher came to Omaha in 1870. He had a brother Peter also in Omaha. I never thought to look under Johansen for him. He married cordy jorgensen 29 june 1872. she was daughter of Jorgen Swensen and Gundhild Olsen, Then he married Karen ????? and had a daughter Paulina on 23 July1884. That is my gr-grandmother. I cannot find any info on wife Karen, never found him on census anywhere until 1900 and he is married to another and living in Colorado census said they had been married 6 years. I know nothing about his family except names.

Teresa - ALWAYS consider looking for Norwegian using their patronymic name. In Christopher's case that could be Johansen, but also consider the spelling variations that would be possible - Johnsen, Johnson, etc.
Spelling variations can be important to consider. Christopher = Christoffer = Kristoffer = Kristofer. If sounds the same, it is the same.

Spelling variations to consider for "Wiig" include Wig, Wik, Vig, Vik, even Week.

You now have all the basic information necessary to continue your research about Christopher's ancestors. You know where he was born, where his parents were born, even his brother "Peter" appeared in that 1865 census when the rest of his family already resided in the city of Trondheim; and at least approximate years of birth for each of them.
The 1870 emigration through the port of Trondheim is now known to be correct because of the immigration information you were able to provide from US information.

Were there very many Norwegian emigrants in Omaha, Nebraska? I have a few photographs of cousins of my own family members that were taken in Omaha and that surprised me. Yours is one of the few inquiries I've ever encountered that mentioned Omaha.

I think there is a possibility that Cordy and Karen (Carrie/Caren), are one and the same. Women had nicknames, etc.

The new wife in 1900 Colorado is Francis, married six years.

Ennis was an agent for the Allan Line and Christopher's destination was Quebec. Since you have his exact date of emigration, you should be able to find him in this database:

In the 1920 census, Christopher Wigg and Frances are in Upper Dallas, Ouray County, Colorado. He is a general farmer.

Dallas is now one of Colorado's mining ghost towns.

The California Death Index shows Olaf Wiig, born October 30, 1878 in Nebraska, Mother's maiden name Jorgenso, died April 18, 1962 in Los Angeles County, CA.

Here is one Karen Jørgensdatter from Vågå going to Omaha Nebraska on 18-Jun-1874.

But Christopher's marriage was in 1872, 2 years earlier...? Also, their son Adolf looks to be born ab. 1872...
Could she have married in 1872, and gone home again?

Also, her age is listed as 48, but should have been 32...?

Kari Jørgensen
Birth: 09 JUL 1841
Christening: 27 FEB 1842, Vaagaa, Oppland
Parents: Jørgen Svendsen & Gunild Olsdr

Peter Wiig and wife Gurine Wernes ran a restaurant in Omaha in 1880.

Gurine is christened in Værnes church, Nord Trøndelag on Aug 4th 1850, and is the daughter of Peter Annas Eriksen Værnesmoen and Martha Pedersdr
Source: Nord-Trøndelag fylke, Stjørdal/Nedre Stjørdal (Værnes), Ministerialbok nr. 709A14 (1845-1858), Fødte og døpte 1850, page 88, #101.

Peter is christened in Værnes church, Nord Trøndelag on Mar 4th 1849, and is the son of Johan Otto Pedersen (...) and Jonetha Christophersdr.

Christoffer is christened in Værnes church, Nord Trøndelag on Nov 9th 1851, same parents as Peter above.
Source: Nord-Trøndelag fylke, Stjørdal/Nedre Stjørdal (Værnes), Ministerialbok nr. 709A14 (1845-1858), Fødte og døpte 1851, page 104, #143.
As Hopkins pointed out, this must be Kristoffer in census 1865.

So the family Tami found in Trondheim 1865 is the right one..

Other children to Johan Otte Pedersen & Jonetta Kristoffersdr:
Martinus, born 12 Jun 1853 Orkedal, Sør-Trøndelag
Gustav Odin, christened 26 Dec 1856 Lade, Sør Trøndelag
Martin, christened 12 Jun 1859, Lade, Sør Trøndelag
Johannes, born 18 Mar 1865, Trondheim, Sør-Trøndelag, christened 05 Jun 1865, dead 26 Sep 1865

Peter married Gurine in Omaha on 16 Apr 1876.

I'm quite confident that Cordy Jorgensen = Karen, and that she is the girl Kari born 09 JUL 1841 in Vaagaa, Oppland by parents Jørgen Svendsen & Gunild Olsdr.

But some dates are wrong. Maybe Karen Jørgensdatter's emigration should be 18-Jun-1872? A direct journey to New York from Christiania would take about 10 days, but still it would be hard to make it all the way to Omaha and the wedding the next day... with "jetleg" and everything...

Thank you so much for all your info. I did have all that you found in the US, but I didn't have any idea how to find them in Norway. And you are probably right on the Cordy/Caren . I do appreciate your time in this. Thank you

Here are Jørgen Svendsen b 1801 and Gunhild Olsdatter b 1811 in Vågå, Oppland in the 1865 census living on the farm Midt-Rusten.

I am having trouble find anything else too! The records for the period needed are not online...yet.

Since the records are not online yet - why not be satisfied with the LSD data - Jan Peter gave you Kari - her father JORGEN SVENDSEN, christened 14 JUN 1801 Vaagaa, Oppland, Norway Jørgens father Svend Rusten (farm)
Jørgens mother, from the 1865 census, is Kari Olsdatter, she was christened 27 OCT 1776 Vaagaa, Oppland, Norway - her parents were Ole Hansen and Synne Olsdatter
find this at http://www.familysearch.org/
