Is there anyone that can help me find some records of Leonard Leonard Trane Johansen and his wife Marie Karoline (Caroline) Larsen?
Nikolai emigrated to america the 24th of April 1909 and he came back to Norway in 1924 I think. His homeplace before emigrating was Ibbestad in Nordland. It would also be nice to know if he had any children in america.
Marie Karoline Larsen is from Finnmark or Troms, I belive she is from Alta. I have been told that her fathers name was Simon Larsen.
Nikolai and Marie had a child (my grandfather) in 1927 (26. nov), there were other siblings but I do not have the information.
If there are anyone with some information I would appreciate to hear about it.

There is one Simon Larsen on the Klubsletten farm in Lenvik, Troms, census-1900. Simon is born in Ibestad, Troms.
Children with wife Marit Larsdatter:
Lovise Karoline 1872 Line Marie 1874 Simon Martin 1875 Oleanna Amalia 1877 Laurits Kornelius 1879 Ole 1881 Peder 1885 Hindberg 1887
Nothing which looks like Marie Karoline though...
There is one Karoline Marie Larsdatter, born 1889 in Lensvik, living as a foster child in Ibestad... Possibly? Could she be Simon Larsen in Lensvik's daughter?
And there is a Marie Karoline Larsdatter in Tana, Finnmark. Born 1880 in Skjervøy, Troms.

I've tried searching 1910 and 1920 US censuses. Searched for Norway born men with given name Nick, Nicoli, Nikoli, Nikolas, Leonard, Leonhard, Leonhart ... Johnson, Johanson, Johansen, Trane, Thrane.... etc. I tried every spelling and combination I could think of. I have NOT been able to find the family in those US censuses. |

In 1920, there is a Nick Johnson, boarder, 34, born Norway, immigrated 1910 working as a laborer in a logging camp in Oma, Iron County, Wisconsin.
Generally, census records are incomplete on boarders and lodgers. Usually the information given is second hand by the landlord.
If he had been sucessful in the United States and/or gotten married and/or had a family, I doubt that he would have returned to Norway and abandoned his children. |

The Lyra was a feeder ship that took emigrants to the port of Hull and then onto other ports in England, including Liverpool.
He contracted for passage to America on the Dominion Line, they operated routes from Liverpool to New Orleans or Quebec. I could not find him in a New Orleans passenger ship, if you are interested in finding what ship he sailed to Quebec in, you may find him on this site, start searching ships passengers lists in May 1909:
