LOOKING FOR PASSENGER AND NEED HELP
Hello, I am searching for Hans Anderson, my ggrandfather. He was born on April 24, 1888 in Oslo Norway. He emigrated to Canada between 1902-1905. I am not sure what ship he came on. I have been told he was a cook aboard the ship he was on and he jumped this ship in Halifax, NS. I have tried to do lookups using several different methods but most I cannot understand b/c it isnt in English. So all in all the reason I am researching this of course is because I need to be able to start somewhere in order to find out information on his parents, etc, etc. His father's name is Anthony Anderson( but it was spelled differently) and his mother's name is Margaret Lyverson. They lived, so I was told, in Transborden, Oslo, Norway. Hans died October 22, 1979. I am hoping you can steer me in the right direction on how to find this info by using the ships register even tho I do not know what ship he sailed on. Thank you, Tina.

You've probably already tried searching for passenger lists in Canada, but in case you haven't, this is a good site.

He may be in one of this emigration lists, but maybe not if he was a cook but it is worth a try. Try the help section first, we all had to learn how to use the database.

There are links on this site for Norwegian dictionaries, reading old records is not that hard, just a few basic words to understand.
