My grandmother, Karen (or Carrie) Sophia Melby (in Norway it was spelled Melbye) was born in Grong, Norway on February 26, 1875. She told me that she left home in 1893 from Namsos and arrived in Quebec and then on to Cummings, North Dakota. I would like to know what ship she traveled on and I would also like to find her parish records of birth and confirmation. Thank you for your help.

That's a pretty good possibility!

Christian Christiansen & Karen Sophie Andreasdatter got married in Harran, Nord Trondelag on 17 JUL 1863.

You should find her in the Trondheim records:

There is an organization for descendants of emigrants from Trondelag, www.tronderlag.org - I highly recommend joining, they have a geneologist and an annual Stevne (gathering).

Are we looking for Karen Melby before or after she was married? What was her maiden name? When did she die? Was she married when she immigrated? Did she marry in ND?

Melby is not a common name, so for that reason most likely she is daughter of Christian Christiansen and Karen S. Anderasdatter.
Christan was born in Solør parish in Aasnes/Åsnes municipality in Hedmark county 1833, still living living as "Føderaadsmand" and wood cutter on Solumsmoen in 1900

His son Ole b. 1863 is listed abowe

No record online from Aasnes earlier than 1866

Karen or Carrie Sophie Melby(e) was her maiden name. She married Thorvald Amundson on November 7, 1898 in Eveleth, Minnesota. Thanks.
