Can anyone direct me to where I might find the newspaper "Morgenbladet" , which is the source for the list of Garibaldi passengers who went from Christiana to Quebec arriving June 20, 1861. Thanks for any assistance. Butch

One of my relatives asked me to find the original of the passenger list, which was according to the Heritage transcription, in the Morgenbladet of August 11,1861. Thanks for the info. I went to Morgenbladet, but, did not see an archives section listed. Is there one?

Morgenbladet was earlier a ordinary newspaper establ. 1819 and closed some years ago, befoer 2000, is now a cultural newspaper published every Friday.

Contact the editorial office by enter "kontakt oss" and mark "Morgenbladets redaksjon" , write your questin in "Tekst:".
All numbers from 1819 are for sure preserved in a safe place.

A newspaper article is not the "original" passenger list. It is a newspaper listing of the passengers. There are no Canadian passengers lists before 1865 so this is the best you can get but it is still only a second hand source of information as there is no original passenger list available.

Morgenbladet, Sunday August 11, 1861:

After a 6 week voyage we have finally arrived in Quebec.
Just as we are about to say goodbye to the ship and its Captain, we can not avoid to use the opportunity to highly recommend "Garibaldi" as well as Capt. Seeberg, to those of our fellow citizens, who would wish to follow our footsteps into America.
We can assure you all that you will find a good ship, fully equipped, and with good accommodation for the passengers, as few others, and a rare human and careful Captain.
Garibaldi, June 1861.

(Name of passengers)

By my presence on board the ship "Garibaldi", I noticed that all the passengers where unanimously united in their tribute of the Ship, Captain and the crew, as well as their satisfaction with the whole journey.

Likewise, I learned that the previous mentioned statement was given and signed by all the passenges without any request by anybody.

Quebec, June 1861.

Great and impartial review by the shipbroker...
