Adding to my earlier post: The emigration record of Ole Nielsen's family shows all 4 children with Nielsen as their last name. The inside cover of Martha's bible shows her last name as Olsdatter and her brothers as Olsen. The church record of her marriage to Lars Apland lists her name as Martha Nilsd. Holte. Isn't this fun?

The record of the marriage of Oliver and Johanna in the ELCA database gives his age as 27 and his first name as Halvor. In Norway, in most places, since his father's name was Ole, he would be recorded as Halvor Olson.
