Hi, I believe this should be on this board, but I don't know where it goes. Anyway, was lutefisk first founded in Norway, and if so, how? In my country, the U.S. we can even order ludefisk pizzas. On a different matter, when the Germans occuppied your country during world war 2 did they take away your salt? |

Hi Wally, I think lutefisk perhaps is more populare in USA than in Norway. Some people claim Lutefisk has been made in Norway since the viking age. Likely not, here are some facts, English version. http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk
By the way: My late grandmother from Northern Norway made Lutefisk by using ash of birch instead of todays lye. Delicious according my mother.
No, the Germans didn´t take away our salt.

My grandmother explained to me that lutefisk was "starvation food". You must live in an area settled by MANY Norwegian emigrants if you can get Lutefisk easily! WHERE is lutefisk pizza available? (Sure isn't where I live in the US.) |

Hopkins, I live i the midwest. While it isn't that easy to get, it is available. As for my herritage, we are made up largely of Norweigens and Sweedish people. |

This topic (& lefse/cookies/whatever) has been discussed ad nauseum at Norway List on Rootsweb. They even have a separate private chat forum where posters can really chat and chat and chat and not bother the serious posters. Norway Heritage has never been a chat room and I, personally, would not like to see that happen. |
