My ancestors were from Aardal and Strand.

My grandmother was Johanna Knudsen from Aardal, daughter of Knud Thorsen and Johanne Gudmundsdatter, born in 1863, and immigrated about 1881. What I'm trying to find out is on what ship she might of sailed on, and the date of departure and destination.

Johanna also had a sister Gundla (or Gunla), born in 1857 and immigrated to America about this same time, or shortly thereafter. Again, I'm trying to find out what ship she may have sailed on and dates.

Johanna's mother and brother, Johanne Gudmundsdatter and Knud Knudsen, immigrated in 1882 and I'd like to know what ship they might have sailed on. In "Emigranter, fra 1825-1970, they were listed as #81822 and #81823?." Johanne was born in 1830 and Knud in 1866. I didn't see the name of the ship on that web page or departure date. Any help?

Last 2 on the far right are Johanna Gudmandsdtr (widow) and son Knud Knudsen leaving Rogaland on 16 Jun 1882.

I found them on Ancestry.com arriving in New York on 10 Jul 1882 on the ship Britannic. Listed under Kundson (I'm sure it's a typo) and Johanna's age is wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's them.

I have not been able to find any information on Johanna Knudsdtr or Gunla Knudsdtr arriving in the States, however, I did find their birth records. Johanna was born on 3 Jun 1863 and Gunla was born on 20 Jul 1857.

I'll keep searching.

Tami

#19 on the right side is Johanna's birth record (born on 19 Sep 1823).

I'm now 99% sure that the Johanne Kundson arriving in New York on the ship Britannic is the correct one.

1865 Census

Here you'll find the family in Hjelmeland and the birthdate for Johanna shows as 1823, not 1830.

Tami

Thank you very much for the help.
I was told Johanna arrived in Boston about 1881, in the company of Swedish lady by the name of Norem, bound for Chicago. I don't know much of anything about Gundla's departure.
I'm at a loss when it comes to researching passanger lists.
Thanks for the specifics, and where I can find the records. I'm going to try to look up the Britanic to see what kind of ship it was.
